Isham Sunday XI vs Grendon - 17th September 2006 Isham’s Sunday XI ran out winners at home to Grendon on their penultimate game of the season. Batting first, George Chudley’s men posted a reasonable score of 191 from their 40 overs. George started the proceedings with several huge boundaries before being bowled by opening bowler Mike Knott for 29. Andy Reynoldson and Juan Harker helped keep the high tempo. Both were dismissed by Andy Burton, who would eventually pick up 5 wickets. Priesh Parmer came in at number 6 and hit some monstrous blows and was the top scoring batman with 36 – one for the future without a doubt! Dave Hobbs and Peter Short saw the innings to the end – Peter hitting 2 boundaries from the final over. In reply Grendon started strongly with both openers reaching double figures within the first 4 overs. It took a difficult catch at slip by Paul Eaton from the bowling of Andy Reynoldson to make the break through. An over later, Grendon were two down after some lightening reactions and an accurate arm from James Bilson saw N. Kansella ran out for 0. From that point on, Grendon struggled to make runs as first change bowlers Paul Eaton and Dave Hobbs bowled tight overs. Both managed two wickets a piece although Hobbs should have had a third – a simple catch at mid on was dropped by Priesh Palmer. However it didn’t effect the end result as Peter Short came on to finish proceedings, finishing with figures of 3.2 – 1 – 3 – 3. Grendon eventually bowled out for 117. There was a scare for keeper George Chudley who was failing to pick up the ball in the dimming light. Juan Harker, who was bowling for the last time whilst in England, hit George on 3 successive occasions – the third forcing George to give up the gloves. There is now a hunt for a new permanent keeper to stand in for George!
