Isham Sunday XI vs Great Oakley CC - 29th April 2007
Members of the Sunday XI maybe forgiven for expecting to win every game this season, as they started their Rutland League campaign with a win. Great Oakley were the visitors at Orlingbury Road who were immediately asked to field by the home skipper. And it took just two balls for Great Oakley to strike – Will Chudley deciding to chip a simple catch to point. But from then, the visitors were given a lesson in batting. Kalvin Lodder and Chris Long both scored 86 each and put on a second wicket partnership of 160 to put Isham in the driving seat. A Cameo knock of 22 from George Chudley took Isham past the 200 mark, and from their 45 overs, the home side scored a comfortable total of 234 for 4.
Great Oakley fell well short of the total despite a superb century from captain Greig Hofbauer. But whilst he soldiered on, his batting partners fell at regular intervals with only Jonathon Evans and Gareth Evans putting up any real resistance. Isham just missed out on claiming full points, with Chris Bell batting out the final overs against Alex Brown and Peter Short. |
