President's XI vs Isham 1st XI - 15th July 2007
The Isham XI proved too strong for the President’s invitation XI this Sunday, as friends of the club got together to celebrate all things Isham. The match was reduced to 30 overs, as all of the players were filling up on a superb bbq, whilst Chris Scopes’ punch was being enjoyed a little too much by some of the players!
Batting first the President’s XI started slowly, with Martin Reece and Rob Taylor mistaking the game for a test match. Gareth Berg who was playing for the Isham XI took very little time in reminding his ex-Kettering team mates who was in charge – two successive short balls caused Reece some problems.
At the other end, Peter Short was causing problems of his own with a tight line and length which eventually led to the downfall of Reece, and should have also removed Nick Coles two balls later, the ball missing the stumps by a whisker. However it couldn’t last, as Dave Clark dispatched Short all over the park – Clark going on to make 80.
Will Chudley picked up two wicket in successive balls, and both were caught by Tim Orsborn at cover point. Ozzy then went on to claim a wicket of his own – his 30 yard run up obviously too much for Mark Hedges and he edge the ball through to Chris Perkins.
A solid performance in the field by Isham meant the Pres XI were restricted to 134 for 6 from their 30 overs.
In reply, Isham started strongly with Simon Court immediately setting the tone with some hard hitting boundaries. At the other end, Albert Luck and Chris Perkins were dismissed cheaply, Albert falling to Phil Glenn, whilst Chris could only fend a short pitched Coles delivery to the waiting Pete Wills. Pete went on to take the wicket of Tim Orsborn (28) later in the game by which time the game was firmly in the balance. But continued slogging from Court and some awesome shots from Gareth Berg helped to take the Isham XI over the line.
