Isham 1st XI vs Weekley & Warkton - 10th May 2008
Isham’s 1st XI went to the top of the 1st division after a comprehensive victory over Weekley & Warkton at Orlingbury Road. Two sublime performances from Chris Harrison and Gareth Eaton effectively sealed the victory.
Batting first the home side started with a wobble, Tim Robinson, Ben Reid and Dean Adams failing with the bat. But Weekley were dealt a blow with skipper Andy Tilley leaving the field injured and were ultimately left with 10 men for the rest of the game. A fired up Chris Harrison and Will Chudley then decided to make use of the good pitch and lightening outfield. Will in his first game for the 1st XI this season hit a quickfire 56 before falling to Jacob Palmer. But Chris carried on mixing big shots with nudges for singles to reach his first century for the club since joining from Burton. Simon Court also helped the Isham total along with 44.
Set a target 258 for victory, Weekley got off to a poor start when Isham overseas Josh Kentwell found the edge of Jacob Palmer’s bat in the 7th over. Brother Sam Palmer fell soon after when Gareth Eaton (also playing in his first game of the season) was brought into the bowling attack. Ben Jolley and Craig Ferguson began to steady the visitors but a rampant Gareth Eaton struck again and began the downfall of the Weekley batting as wickets began to fall at regular intervals.
Andrew Law who had bowled an exceptionally tight spell finally got the wicket he deserved, trapping Nick Dalziel LBW. But Gareth effectively sealed the win taking further wickets to end with figures of 9 – 2 – 34 – 5.
