Isham 2nd XI vs Bugbrooke- 15th July 2006
The 2nd XI were edged out in a thrilling contest at Orlingbury Road against Bugbrooke. Batting first,
Isham made a shaky start with Dave Hobbs falling for 0. But this brought in George Chudley who set
about destroying the Bugbrooke attack, sending the ball to all corners of the park (and road)! He
eventually fell for 79 but his innings gave a platform for Isham to build a good score. Isham were
however eventually bowled out for 181, but on a fast deteriorating pitch, this looked a good score.
Bugbrooke started about the innings quickly taking runs whenever they could. With only 2 wickets
falling in the first 20 overs, Bugbrooke looked like they would cruise home. But Peter Short was brought
in to the bowling attack again in the hope to make a breakthrough, and with his 5th ball did just that
and went on to take 3 for 16, ripping out the middle order and giving Isham a great chance of victory.
But it was Bugbrooke’s day as possible catches didn’t quite carry, and flailing shots went to the
boundary – they finally hit the winning run, for the loss of 8 wickets.
