Club mourns passing of Cliff Smith

It is with great sadness that Isham Cricket Club announce the death of Vice-President, Ex-Player and long term Club Member - Cliff Smith.
Cliff passed away on the 18th May, peacefully at home.
He was a much loved man who will be sadly missed by all at the club.
The funeral service is to be held at Holy Trinity Church, Denford on Thursday 29th May 2014 at 1:30pm. This will be followed by a private family cremation.
All Isham players and members who want to remember Cliff are welcome to attend.

Two-ton seconds are off and running

The second team bounced back admirably from their opening-day mauling as both Luke Conyard and Dean Adam hit hundreds to see off Old Northamptonians 4th.

Having mustered just 36 between them on day one against Cogenhoe, it was much better second time around.

Having lost the toss and been put in, Adam and Conyard combined to dominate the young bowling attack reaching 105 and 103 not out respectively before the declaration came on 269-4 in 41 overs.

The experienced Jim Hawkins offered some resistance in the reply as he made 50, but with Damien Conyard bagging 4-27 and Adam and debutant Mohammad Fahim collecting two victims each the win was sealed by 162 runs.

It was not such good news for the first team who once again suffered a batting malfunction.

They kept Old Northamptonians 2nd to 198-8 at Billing Road thanks to Andy Law's 9-3-27-3.

But it still proved too big a task to chase down. Once openers Tim Robinson (38) and Chris Perkins (28) had gone after a half-century first-wicket stand, only Brandon Hawker (13) managed to reach double figures.

They were all out for 126 to follow up totals of 148, 128 and 151 so far this summer.

All three sides are in action this weekend with the firsts at Irthlingborough, the seconds at home to Thrapston 2nd and the Zingari away to Hardingstone 2nd.

Hawker and Wilson lead the way to a first win

Decisive contributions from Brandon Hawker and Jake Wilson made the difference as Isham got off the mark in Northamptonshire Cricket League Division One.

A first win of the season was collected as Loddington & Mawsley were beaten by 38 runs at Orlingbury Road.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat, Isham were in big trouble at 73-6. However, Hawker cracked an impressive 42 from 46 balls to lift the total to 151 all out.

In difficult conditions it was then up to Wilson and opening partner Andy Law to finish the job off.

Australian pace bowler Wilson ripped through the side on his way to 6-39 but was ably backed up by the ever-reliable Law who was rewarded for his hard work with 3-33.

Josh Plowright’s 85 was a lone stand for Loddington whose next highest scorer made eight.

The second team did not fare so well on their opening day.

They were bowled out for just 36 by Cogenhoe. Jim Lyon made 26 of them on an awkward afternoon for the batsmen.

Cogenhoe lost just two wickets in their speedy response.

It was a similar tale for the Zingari who, chasing the 122 made by hosts Badby, slipped to 53 all out.

The Sunday side restored some pride when they entertained Easton-on-the-Hill.

Having made 255 they bowled out the visitors for 142.

No changes for the trip to Weekley

Isham name an unchanged side for this weekend’s trip to Weekley & Warkton.

They take on their old friends at Boughton Park with both sides looking to recover after opening-day defeats.

Isham slumped to a 53-run loss at home to Finedon Dolben 2nd while Weekley fell 34 runs short in their pursuit of Loddington’s 127.

Weekley were perhaps the surprise package of last season as they finished second in their first season back in Division One. The match gets under way at 1pm.

Isham: G Chudley, Court, Tim Robinson, Perkins, Harrison, Long, Adam, White, Law, James, Wilson.

Disappointing start as first-team collapse to Finedon loss
Isham's overseas signing Jake Wilson will make his debut for the club when the new Northamptonshire Cricket League season gets under way this weekend. The Australian pace bowler – fresh from taking 44 wickets at an average of 15.32 for Randwick Petersham in Sydney's first grade cricket during the winter – will be spearheading the attack as the first-team return to

Isham's return to Division One of the Northamptonshire Cricket League ended with a disappointing 53-run loss to Finedon Dolben 2nd at Orlingbury Road. A strong visiting side posted 201-8 from their 50 overs as some late hitting by Andy Roberts (37 from 39 balls) and David Clarke (41) lifted them to a challenging total.
Australian Jake Wilson looked impressive on debut collecting figures of 15-6-35-3 and he received good back up from Chris Long (9-1-36-3).
The response was in excellent shape with openers Tom Robinson and Chris Perkins continuing where they left off in last season's promotion campaign. However, Perkins fell for a measured 29 and Robinson, whose dynamic 83 included seven fours and six sixes, followed soon after. That brought on a collapse that saw a well-placed chase slip from 90-0 to 148 all out with no one apart from the top two reaching double figures.
They will be hoping for better this weekend when they head to Weekley & Warkton for their first away game of the summer.

Season Opener
Isham's overseas signing Jake Wilson will make his debut for the club when the new Northamptonshire Cricket League season gets under way this weekend. The Australian pace bowler – fresh from taking 44 wickets at an average of 15.32 for Randwick Petersham in Sydney's first grade cricket during the winter – will be spearheading the attack as the first-team return to Division One action on Saturday.

He will be joined in the side by Ellery White, another new recruit who has joined from Rothwell Town. After gaining promotion from the second division in 2013, Isham's opening game sees them facing the tough task of taking on Finedon Dolben 2nd.

They took fifth place in the table last summer and their senior side are expected to be challenging for Premier Division honours this time around. The match starts at 1pm at Orlingbury Road and supporters of both clubs will be very welcome.

Isham: G Chudley, Court, Tim Robinson, Perkins, Harrison, Long, Adam, White, Law, James, Wilson.

1st XI Promoted and Somerfield reaches 100 wickets!

1st XI celebrating Promotion and 100 League wickets for Adam Somerfield

On a dramatic final day of the season the 1st XI were promoted back into Div 1 of the NCL. Going into the away fixture at Overstone they trailed second place East Haddon by 3 points so a maximum 30 point win was a must, while also hoping that Haddon would not be able to get the same from their home fixture againt Northampton Saints.

Isham lost the toss but were put into bat by Overstone meaning that the 30 point win was possible. A good batting display saw Isham close on 240 for 9 after 50 overs setting a solid platform. In reply, Overstone played positive cricket but never really looked taking the game away from isham and on 126 for 9 Isham were closing in on the win and a fairytale end to a record breaking season for overseas player Adam Somerfield. The sub plot to the day had been Somerfield starting play on 96 League wickets. Having already smashed the NCL record number of league wickets in a season which previously stood at 79 he was 4 short of his ton. With one wicket needed for victory Somerfield already had 3 in the game, taking his tally to 99. With what materialised to be the final ball of the 2013 season, Somerfield claimed his 100th wicket sparking off an emotional celebration and topping off an amazing season.

The celebrations however were put on hold as news came through that East Haddon had set Saints 229 for 7 and declared. This meant that a win for Haddon would also give them a 30 point maximum and promotion, ahead of Isham. For the best part of two hours the Isham team sat nervously sipping beers on the Overstone outfield while getting regular updates via phone from Chairman Bill Chudley who had made the trip over to East Haddon. Saints, in trouble at the foot of the table needed to secure a draw to avoid relegation and when news finally came through that they had held on at 181 for 6 the Isham celebrations began!

In the end it was the perfect end to an amazing season in which the 1st XI remained unbeaten. Congratulations to skipper George CHudley and all of the players.

Week 1 match report

This season our overseas Player/Coach Adam is going to be doing a weekly match report and update on all the 1st XI's matches.

Round One- Isham 1st XI v Rushden 2nds To kick off season 2013, the 1st XI after a disappointing season last year that ended horribly to see them relegated to Division 2 were at home to Rushden 2nds. On a cold brisk afternoon and with new Isham skipper George Chudley missing the first game due to a wedding, it was left to stand in and a past Skipper in Simon Court, He won the Toss and decided to Bowl.

On a Flat wicket, but offering some assistance to the Bowlers , the innings was started off by overseas Adam Somerfield and bowling up into the wind was Chris Long. It was Long who struck first for the home team removing opener Sam Fowler for a Duck well caught behind by keeper Harrison (2/1). A small partnership begun to develop as Sam Perry and Darren Harrison dug in as the two Isham opening bowlers found their line and length. But with the score on 22/1, Somerfield deceiving Harrison with a well executed slower ball rattling his stumps saw the visitors lose their second wicket, and when Somerfield followed that up by hitting the new batsman James Freeman straight in front with a quick Yorker Rushden 2nds found themselves reeling at 22/3. Things went from bad to worse for Rushden 2nds, as once again Somerfield rattled the woodwork, this time it was James Rawlins who fell for 2 with the score 24/4. Number 3 Sam Perry was looking to play his shots on any lose deliveries while keeping out the good balls. Isham skipper Court, made the bowling change and with success straight away.......... click here to read rest of report.

WEEK 10 RESULTS:

1st XI lose despite Ryan's 8 wicket haul, 2nd XI also have a bad weekend!

The 1st XI were away at Kettering Town, one of the suprise high flyers in Div 1 title this season. Isham won the toss and elected to bowl first. Kettering got off to a solid start with opener Wilson - 72 and No.3 Kooner - 62 making light of the Isham attack and poor weather conditions. Were it not for the bowling performance of the season from Ryan Conyard Isham would have been chasing far more than the 194 all out that Kettering finished on. Conyard finished with fantastic figures of 8 for 31 of 8.5 overs. In reply Isham never really got going as once again the batsmen struggled. When extras are the top scorer it is always going to be bad news and this proved to be the case as they were rolled over for 54 inside 28 overs. Kettering's overseas Atherstone did most of the damage with 7 for 16 in 14 overs. The result leaves the 1st XI second from bottom and in desperate need of points from this weeks visit from ON's.

The 2nd XI were at home to Wellingborough Indians 2nd XI and also struggled in a run chase. Batting first, Indians number 4 Bhavin Patel anchored the innings finishing on 72 not out in the visitors total of 162 for 7. Shaun Wills was the pick of the bowling with 2 for 14 off his 15 overs. After a promising start from Isham's opening pair of Lyon and Tony Robinson there was a collapse of huge proportions! Isham lost 8 wickets for 9 runs as they went from 41 for 0 to 50 for 8. The home side were eventually bowled out for 63 in 22 overs. This leaves the 2nd XI rooted to the bottom of Division 5.

WEEK 8 RESULTS:

1st XI continue poor run, 2nd XI get first win of the season while the Zingari make it 3 victories in a row!

The 1st XI were away at Rushden who were relegated from the Premier League last season. Batting first Rushden scored 233 for 5, declaring after 45 overs. Had it not been for overseas Juanre Van Wyk the total would have been a differant story. He top scored with 139 off 97 balls, extras at 24 being the next highest score! With the 1st XI struggling to find form with the bat the total was always going to be a big ask and they again underperformed being bowled out for 79 in 21 overs. Raja Mahmood was the only batsman to register with 26. A must win game at home to Old Wellingburians is next week.

The 2nd XI were at home to Rothwell 2nd XI and picked up their first win of the 2012 season in convincing style. Winning the toss they elected to field and bowled the visitors out for 86 in 44.5 overs. The wickets were shared between all four bowlers. Shaun Wills, Pete Wills and Dave Barlow picking up 2 each while Dean Adam took three. In reply Isham lost two ealy wickets as Tony Robinson fell for 2 and Elliott James followed for 0. That was the end of any hopes of a Rothwell victory as opener Drupad Parmar carried his bat for 47 with support from Dean Adam who was unbeaten on 27. Hopefully this will kickstart the season for the 2nd XI.

The Zingari collected their third win in a row at home to Weekley & Warkton 4th XI. Weekley won the toss and decided to bat. Opener Burgess top scored with 19, only 2 other batsmen made double figures as isham bowled the visitors out for 93. Vinay Mistry and Nigel payne both took 3 wickets each. The low target was not as easy as it looked on paper but Isham managed to reach their target in 37 overs with the loss of 7 wickets. Adam Waterfield finished on 16 not out with Mark Hayes, Stuart hardy and Vinay Mistry all making double figures. The win sees the Zingari move to mid table in the League.

WEEK 5 RESULTS:

1st XI get 30 point win, 2nd XI lose at home while the Zingari chase down 245 to win!

On the first hot and sunny day of the season Isham won the toss and decided to go for maximum points and bat against ON's II's. Isham finished on 179 for 5 after 50 overs, yet another poor start hampering progress. Ben Reid top scored with 56 followed by Simon Court on 49. In reply ON's lost a couple of early wickets but then a stand of 77 meant they were looking good at 99-3. The game was turned on its head with the reintroduction of opener Law who ripped out the middle order with 5-49 leaving ON's on 125-7. With plenty of overs left ON's took a cautious approach and took the score to 158 before loosing another wicket. With the game in the balance disaster struck for Simon Court who was seriously injured running for the ball. He dislocated his knee and an ambulance had to be called holding up the game for 40 minutes. With Court's season over Isham resumed and wrapped up the win with the final 2 wickets for a maximum point win seeing them third in the Division 1.

The 2nd XI were at home to Kettering 2nd XI. Winning the toss they elected to field and bowled the visitors out for 184 in 48 overs. The pick of the bowling was Raja Mahmood who took 5 for 38. Isham chase fell just short as they were bowled out for 156. Six of the Isham batsmen made it to double figures but no one went on to anchor the innings which would have made the difference. Skipper George Chudley top scored with 35. The 2nd XI now sit bottom of Division 5 and need to pull together if they are to make an impact in the higher division.

Away to West Haddon the Zingari were set the huge challenge of chasing down 245 in 45 overs. Opener Allen was the key to Haddon's total finishing on 137 not out. Elliot Hayes was the pick of the Zingari bowling with 3 wickets, which would be just the start of a fantastic day for him. The Zingari's inning began badly loosing opener Arthey for 0. Kelland and Hardy steadied the ship until Kelland was out LBW for 17. This bought Hayes to the wicket and changed the game. He finished unbeaten on 134, getting Isham home with just 2 balls to spare. An amazing display giving the Zingari their first victory of the 2012 campaign.

WEEK 3 RESULTS:

1st XI get first win while 2nd XI are washed out again.

After both last weeks fixtures were cancelled due to the wettest April on record, the 1st XI got their season running with a win at home against Finedon 2nd XI. Wet conditions throughout the week meant once again playing on a bowler friendly wicket and on loosing the toss it was no suprise that Isham were asked to bat first. Early wickets fell and Isham were soon 24 for 3 and looking in trouble, but the home side added 121 runs before they lost their fourth wicket when opener Ben Reid was joined by Simon Court. Reid was finally removed on 48 with the score on 145. Court went on to make 92 before departing and Isham finished on 177 for 8. Finedon's innings got off to a bad start as opener Brett was caught and bowled by Court who also removed fellow opener Brown after a quick fire 18. Five of the top 6 batsmen got off to starts but just as they looked like forming an innings they were removed by a combination of good bowling and fielding. Law accounted for Todd while overseas Bodenstein removed Patel and Nunn after they had put on 37 together. Court's direct hit was the end of Swann who was run out for 18. Finedon were now on 98 for 6 and Isham sensed victory. The introduction of new boy James Peel finished the visitors off as his spell of 3 wickets for 2 runs blew the tail end apart. It was left for Dean Adam to take the final wicket with his first ball to seal the 30 point victory.

The 2nd XI were rained off for the second week running as a waterlogged pitch meant no play was possible at St. Crispins.

The 1st XI held out for a draw in a rain affected game away at Oundle Town. Batting first Oundle set 200 for 7, Wake top scoring with 81. Both Law 1-34-15 and Jaensch 2-43-13 bowled long tight spells while Judd tokk 4-49 in his 8 overs. In reply Isham began well and at 80 for 1 were in control. The introduction of spin at both ends slowed down the run chase and wickets fell as Isham tried to push on in the knowledge they only had 42 overs to bat. Eventually the chase became a lost cause and Law and Mahmood held firm for the draw.

The 2nd XI began the day in second place in Div 6 and were entertaining leaders Badby in a top of the table clash. With skipper Chudley away, Jim Lyon took over, beggining by winning the toss and electing to field. At 87-1 Badby were looking good for a large total but ex-skipper Pete Wills changed the game with a 6 wicket haul. Badby collapsing to 129 all out. Chasing a low score is always about mindset and having someone bat through which Isham achieved. Ian Kelland carried his bat for 31 while Elliot Leach's 51 meant the bulk of the runs were accounted for. A minor mid order collapse left it for bowling hero Wills to join Kelland and see Isham home. The win takes the 2nd XI top of Div 6.

Isham's reply was led by opener Chris Perkins who top scored with 41 off 33 balls. The Rushton total was passed in the 17th over to give Isham a perfect start to the T20 competition.

1st XI tie in last ball thriller, 2nd XI win and
Zingari win their inagural League fixture!

The 1st XI had a thrilling game away to Kettering town that went down to the final ball . Batting first Isham made 213 for 9 off their 50 overs. Chris Harrison led the scoring with 79 with the middle order supporting him well. A fine spell of spin bowling from both ends slowed down the Isham run scoring. In chase Kettering found themselves past the 100 mark without the loss of a wicket as the opening pair batted steadily against some tight Isham bowling. As was hoped, the eventual breakthrough led to a flurry of wickets as once again spin from both ends did all the damage. Raja Mahmood on 1st XI debut took 5 wickets with Burnham at the other end keeping it very tight. With the run rate going above 6 an over both teams fancied the win and Judd took full advantage of Kettering's attacking play with 3 quick wickets. With 9 wickets down and 1 ball remaining Kettering needed 2 runs to win. Lewis James struck the ball well and it looked to be heading for a boundary until Perkins collected on the run 5 yards in and launched a pin point throw over the stumps to run out the Kettering batsman as he was a yard short of gettting the vital second run. An amazing piece of fielding under pressure. This gave Isham the wicket they needed and Kettering the solitary run to level the scores. Both sides were happy with the result after a fantastic game.

The 2nd XI made it 2 out of 2 with another victory. Home side Weekley and Warkton won the toss and decided to bowl. Isham set 183 for 9 off their 45 overs with Elliott James 49 and Jim Lyon 48 both doing some expert jug avoidance! In reply once opener Fox was removed for 55 Weekley struggled to build any meaningfull partnerships with Payne left stranded on 22 as they were bowled out for 150 inside 37 overs.

Isham Zingari took to the field against Medbourne in a landmark first ever league fixture. Isham won the toss and decided to bat first. Evergreen opener Hardy scored 33 and with Drupad Parmars 44 in the middle order meant the Zingari scored 175 for 9 off their 45 overs. Medbourne's reply began well and they were 62 for no loss. The introduction of spin from skipper Kishor and son Drupad was the changing point. Medbourne were reduced to 106-5 as the Parmars set about them. With the lower order exposed a trio of young seam bowlers in Lantz, Barritt and Taylor all combined to take wickets leaving Medbourne 9 down. Skipper Kishor returned to sow up the victory with his fourth wicket of the game.

1st XI Get off to a flyer!

On one of the warmest opening days of the season in memory, the 1st XI began their campaign at home to ON's on Saturday. The sun was beating down as Isham were asked to bat first after loosing the toss, which would have been the same outcome had they of won it.

At the top of the order Tim Robinson top scored with 64. Steady batting throughout the Isham innings was provided by skipper Court with 48, Harrison 36 and new overseas Jaensch on 35 not out. After tight bowling and some good cathches the Isham innings finished on 213 for 7 off their 50 overs.

Isham took the field and Long started the season off by clean bowling ON's skipper Ingman with his first ball off the season in the second over. Australian Jaensch was soon off the mark with his first ever wicket for Isham clean bowling the dangerous Mellor for 6. Jaensch soon picked up his second and On's were 3 down. A good partnership between Caunt and Long meant ON's progressed to 86 without loosing more wickets and the game was well balanced. This all changed with the introduction of spin from both Hussain and Burnham. Hussain ripped out the middle order with a superb spell of 5-36 while Burnham kept it tight and built up pressure from the other end. Jaensch came back to clean up the last wicket in the 37th over to give Isham a 65 run win and a maximum 30 points.

1st XI keep up winning streak while 2nd XI draw.
The1st XI made it 3 out of 3 wins at Orlingbury Road in the space of 3 weeks. Winning the toss Isham put visitors Thrapston in to bat on a typical hard and flat Isham wicket. 1st XI Carry on winning while 2nd XI struggle again.
The1st XI carried on their fine form with another emphastic win at Orlingbury Road. Starting the day in 3rd place in the table they faced Kettering who were 1 spot below in 4th. Winning the toss Isham asked the visitors to bat on an unusually slow Isham wicket due to the week of poor weather leading up to the game. Kettering began their innings slowly with Law bowling particularly tight lines. After 6 overs only 10 runs had been scored. Aussie paceman Somerfield was beggining to get frustrated with the slow pace of the wicket and was replaced by the in-form Shaun Wills. Laws tight lines and the swing of Wills meant that the wickets began to fall at both ends. Only opener Sisodia put up any resistance with 39. The next highest score was extras on 10 as no other batsman made double figures. Law finished up with 4-33 and Wills 6-31 as Kettering were bowled out for 88 in the 26th over. In reply Isham did loose 5 wickets due to some good bowling by Linnell and a few rash shots but the ever reliable Reid finished not out on 36 as the total was chased down in 19th over. With Geddington loosing and Horton drawing the 1st XI move up to 2nd in the table, one point off top.

The 2nd XI faced a tough away trip to league leaders Kibworth. Asked to bat first the Isham innings never really got going. Perkins again was the main run maker with 34. Tim Norton and skipper Pete Wills scored 16 and 18 but that was it as the next highest score was 6. Isham's inning ended in the 27th over for 87. Inevitably this was too ow a score to defend and Kibworth knocked it off in the 24th over for the loss of 4 wickets. Hobbs the pick of the bowling with 2-25.

1st XI Demolish Desborough but 2nds loose.
The1st XI completed a comprehensive 9 wicket win over last seaons Premier League outfit Desbourough and were back in the pavilion celebrating a couple of minutes after five o'clock on Saturday. Winning the toss, Isham asked the visitors to bat first on a hard quick wicket that looked like it had plenty of runs in it for the batsmen. From the start Somerfield troubled the batsmen with his pace and Law was hitting a good line and length, both taking wickets. Desborough found themselves 44-6 and only a 37 run partnership between Burnham and Shafiq got them past the 80 run mark. The introduction of the in form Shaun Wills and the return of Somerfield for a second spell meant the vistors were all out for 101. In reply Isham lost Zia early on but Reid and Harrison made light work of the bowling attack and chased the target down in the 17th over to complete an emphatic win.
The 2nd XI were away at Grendon & Primms. Batting first, aside from Ian Kelland's 61 the top order failed to make an impact. Runs from the middle order of Pete Wills, Smith and Kelly came slowly as the loss of early wickets meant a more cautious approach. Isham ended their innings on a below par 169-7. Grendon & Primms top order showed the Isham batsmen how it should be done, the top three all scoring well and getting them within sight of the total. A good spell of bowling by Damian Conyard led to 3 quick wickets and a slight wobble but Grendon passed the Isham total in the 30th over for the loss of 5 wickets.

Weekend Washout!

Both 1st & 2nd teams failed to finish their fixtures this weekend as the weather put pay to any efforts to get a result.
The 1st XI were away at ON's and after watching rain and drizzle eventually managed to make a start in a game reduced to 28 overs per side. ON's begam well and had 82 on the board before the introduction of Shaun Wills broke the opening partnership. Some tight bowling in the final 10 overs meant ON's finished on 169 for 4 with Wills taking 3 wickets. Fancying their chances with a strong batting lineup, Isham were padding up when the heavens opened and a 30 minute monsoon meant both sides and umpires reluctantly had to call it a day.
The 2nd XI virtually mirrored the 1st Team. At home to Old they too sat watching the rain and eventually started late with 33 overs per side.  Old finished on 187 for 4 after their 33. Isham began their reply buy on 23 for 0 wicket the same storm that washed out the 1st Teams match hit Orlingbury road with the same result - match abandoned.

1st & 2nd XI start with Draws.

The season finally started this weekend with the 1st XI at home to Newly promoted Long Buckby and The 2nd XI away to Gretton.

After loosing the toss the 1st Team were put into bat and finished up with a huge 298 for 8 off their 50 overs. Ben Reid started the season with a century and Adam Somerfield finished with 68 n.o. In reply Long Buckby finished on 221 for 9. One more wicket would have seen Isham take maximum points but the visitors held on for the draw. Shaun Wills marked his return to the first team with 4 wickets.

The 2nd XI won the toss in their game and decided to bowl first. Gretton finished their innings on 260 for 7. Andrew White, Mark Norton & Dave Barlow all taking a couple of wickets each. In reply Isham began badly loosing both openers cheaply but Chris Perkins steadied the ship with 79. Isham finishing on 222 for 8 and having to settle for the draw.

29.08.09 - Isham do 'Double' over Earls Barton

Both 1st & 2nd XI's produced wins over Earls Barton in the double header weekend.

The 1st XI were playing their final home game of the season and signed off with victory. Isham lost the toss and were put in to bat. The innings began badly with opener Reid falling for just 6. Zia and Harrison made slow but sure progress on a pitch that was dusting up with variable bounce once the new ball had been seen off. Harrison fell for 24 and was soon followed by Zia for 37. Long in his new no.4 berth played positive shots but was undone with one drive too many for 16. Somerfield joined skipper Court and slowly they began to build an innings together. The partnership had reached 62 when Court was dismissed by opener Yaqub with a 'nip backer' for 44. Somerfield fell soon after for yet another dubious LBW for 30. The tail failed to wag as Smith was left unbeaten on 10 as he ran out of partners. Isham 188 all out on the last ball.

Earls Bartons reply began slowly but surely and they had reached 36 before opener Yaqub was out LBW to Law, the first of his 5 wickets. Overseas Suleman joined Rees and both batted well taking the total to 66 before Law bowled a beauty that moved away off the seam uprooting the South African's off stump. Hussain had replaced Somerfield and immediatley had new batsman Smart caught at slip by Reid. At the other end Law was into his stride and blew away the top and middle order with Hussain also taking another. Somerfield was reintroduced to mop up the tail. No 8 batsman Trotter was putting up a solid resistance to the Isham attack and with one wicket needed his innings was ended in the most unfortunate of manners. An attempted yorker from Somerfield

came out a full toss which Trotter managed to chip up into his chin. The resulting injury was a huge split which needed stitches. Trotter forced to retire on 29 off 58 balls. An Isham win in disapointing circumstances.

The 2nd XI were also facing Earls Barton in an away fixture. Winning they toss they inserted the home side with opener Shaun Wills striking early on to remover skipper Howe for 0. Soon Brooks was caught behind off White and Wills has his second bowling Agostini for 1 leaving the home side on 17 -3. Opener Bond and new bat Patching regrouped taking the score past 50 before Hobbs was introduced and removed Bond with a catch off his own bowling. Regular wickets followed with only no.8 Desborough making any impact with 35. Earls Barton eventually all out for 139. Wills and Hobbs both finishing with 3 wickets each.

Chasing a low score with 53 overs to chase it down created an ideal situation for veterans Hardy and Norton to go out and set their stall. Both made slow but steady runs until Hardy was caught and bowled by Yaqub. Perkins came and went for 0. Mistry made 17 and White 4. Norton eventually fell 3 short of his 50. Shaun Wills and Luck got the score within 1 run before Wills was bowled. Isham finally got over the line with overs and wickets to spare finishing on 140-6.

The win see's them advance above Earls Barton into 7th place and 45 points clear of the relegation battle.

10.08.09 - Leaders undone by 'Long Arm of the Law!'

The 1st XI produced a great performance on Saturday to beat top of the table Geddington. The start of the day was Andy ‘Whammo’ Law who took 4 wickets in 4 balls to obliterate the Geddington middle order.

Isham won the toss and gave Geddington first knock on a pitch that was always going to be a bit soft after the torrential rain throughout the week. Star man Steele opened up and was not doubt looking at a big score after dispatching the Isham bowlers to all parts on his way to 156 against them earlier in the season. His stay this time was a short lived one as he only lasted 4 balls. Aussie quick bowler Somerfield cleaned him up with a delivery sort of a length that kept low and beat the unlucky Steele all ends up.

Opener Tertius Raubenheimer was joined at the crease by older brother Tian. Both set about the bowling playing positive shots and at times chancing their arm. Geddington found themselves on 40-1 and bowling changes were on the cards until Law’s magic spell reduced Geddington to 40-5. First victim was Raubenheimer Jnr who top edged a short delivery and was caught sharply by Reid at 1st slip. Pearson lasted one ball, LBW straight in front. Ludlam made his way in for the hat-trick ball, still dressing himself after the tumble of wickets. The fielders surrounded the bat like a pack of wolves. A good length ball from Law nipped away, found the edge and was taken superbly, low down by keeper Harrison. The players surrounded Law to celebrate his first County League hat-trick. This bought the end of the over. A maiden was played out and Law once again found himself bowling at a new man – Sutherland. Again Law strode in and struck him on the back pad right in front of middle, 4 in 4 balls!!

At 40-5 Geddington needed to regroup. Raubenheimer now had to change his game to a more weary one and with Murdoch the score progressed slowly past 100 before Murdoch was caught by Reynolds off Court for a grafted 18 off 57 balls. Skipper Toseland joined Raubenheimer and at 6-105 caution was the order of the day. 10 tight overs followed as Toseland dug in to play the support role. He was eventually cleaned up by the Somerfield who was back in the attack for 0 off 26 balls. The only other contribution was from Judd who ended up 14 not out as Somerfield and Long cleaned up the tail. Geddington all out for 154 in 45.4 overs. Law and Somerfield finishing with 4 wickets each.

Isham's reply started badly as Zia was given out LBW batting 2 yards out of his crease after getting a big stride in. Reid was joined by Harrison. Both knew their job was to see of the new ball which they did. After scratching around to begin with Harrison began to play with fluency and some exquisite shots followed. Harrison reached his 50 and Isham took the score past 90 before Harrison was run out stupidly backing up too far. Reynolds came and went without progressing the score and Reid followed soon after. Skipper Court lasted 3 balls and Robinson joined him in the pavilion after Raubenheimer's Googly did him all ends up! Isham had gone from 90-1 to 108-6 and Geddington sensed victory.

Smith and Somerfield calmed things down playing out some overs. Somerfield attacked the bad ball playing positively while Smith played well in the support role. Smith eventually fell LBW with the score on 127 to a short pitched shooter. Long joined Somerfield and again showed the strength of the Isham batting line up. Never looking in trouble they put on 30 with Long finishing the game with a 6 overs mid wicket.

A well deserved victory to an in-form Isham team who as usual tried to keep the crowd and the opposistion interested right until the end!!

29.07.09 - Isham beat Prem side to make Finals Day

Isham defeated Premier League side Stony Stratford in the quarter finals of the NCL Twenty20 Plate at Orlingbury road. Isham lost the toss and Stony decided to bat first. Tight bowling from Court and Henson meant Stony got of to a slow but steady start after loosing opener Avery in the third over. Ex test player Dion Ebrahim and Tate were the backbone of the Stony innings scoring 45 and 42 respectivley before both being caught out on the boundary by Court off the bowling of Reynolds. A couple of good run outs by Somerfield helped the cause. Stony eventually setting 146-6 off their 20 overs.

The Isham innings got off to a flyer with Aussie Somerfied playing some big shots helping to take 22 off the first over. At the other end Lodder played an uncharacteristic shot and was bowled for 1 by Jethre. Will Chudley came in at 3 and some quick running and the odd boundary meant that Isham were always up with the run rate. Somerfield fell for 21 which bought usual opener Reid to the Crease. Reid and Chudley continued the scoring with some well played shots and well taken singles. Will was eventually caught on 22 and was replaced by his brother who was out LBW first ball. Stony sensed they were now on top as wickets were falling. Skipper Court joined Reid who both consolodated for a couple of overs to stem the flow of wickets. A tired Reid was eventually out for a well played 46. Reynolds joined Court and as the last recognised batsman they both played steady shots taking runs off singles and dispatching the odd bad ball. The run rate was up to 7 an over but both batsmen were playing well and managed to see Isham home with 4 balls to spare. A good victory that sees Isham into the Finals day.

18.07.09 - Weekley Hold out for Draw against 1st XI

The 1st XI were held to a winning draw away at Weekley & Warkton on Saturday. After loosing the toss and being put into bat the Isham innings began badly, loosing Ben Reid for 0. Zia and Somerfield then settled things down and took the score to 85 before the Australian was dismissed for a well worked 56. Zia was Joined by Vice captain George Chudley before loosing his wicket 2 runs short of his half century. George Chudley went on to make 39 and was joined by skipper Court. Younger Chudley Will made 9 and Court was joined by TimRobinson. Court and Robinson began steadily and then took the Weekley bowlers apart in the final overs scoring nearly 50 runs off the final 4 overs!! Robison ended unbeaten on 43 and Court unbeaten on 63. Isham finished 290 for 5.

The Weekley innings began with Palmer and Rorke. Palmer looked comfortable, Rorke however looked nervous againt flatmate Somerfield - who eventually cleaned him up for 10. Burgess came in at 3 and from ball 1 took it to the Isham bowlers. Edges and near misses frustrated the bowlers to beging with but he then settled down and began to hit the ball cleanly. Palmer, batting well, left a straight one from Law leaving Weekley 28-2. Ferguson, only playing his second game of the season, joined Burgess and things settled down. With the 100 partnership looming Court came on with some off spin pies and set the trap which Burgess fell for, caught at long-on by Long for 54. Skipper Bailey carried on where Burgess left off. The re-introduction of Somerfield was the catalyst for Isham wickets as he removed ferguson for 47 and Bailey for 34 - both clean bowled. Fellow opener Law also returned and saw for Dalziel. A short pitched ball from Somerfield took Smith by suprise and looped to a shocked Law at gully who held the catch. Isham now only needed 2 wickets but overs were running out and both Somerfield and Law had bowled their allocation. With the wicket playing slow and low the Isham bowlers found it hard to produce any magic and the experienced Peasnall and youthful Rees saw out the final 4 overs.

11.07.09 - 1st XI Beat Local Rivals in Final Over Drama!

The 1st Team pulled off a dramatic win on Sat over high flying rivals Wellingborough Town.

Isham won the toss and put the visitors in to bat. Wellingborough got of to a flyer with the first 50 coming off 6 overs. Eventually Isham began to pull things back with some tight bowling from overseas Somerfield who removed both
openers. A steady stream of wickets slowed down the run rate and the introduction of Chris Long, partnering Somerfield in his second spell meant things were kept tight. Somerfield finished with 6 for 43 off 15 and Long finished with 2 for 35 off 12. Wellingborough ended on 206 for 9.

A rain delay during the Wellingborough innings meant Isham had only 45 overs to chase down the runs. Reid and Zia started well putting on 50 for the first wicket. Zia went on to make his 50 supported well by Reynolds. Isham steadily chipped away at the score but were also loosing wickets. With 3 overs to go they needed 27 to win and were 7 wickets down. Skipper Court and Long decided the draw was never an option.

A tight over from Accademy bowler Roach meant 21 was needed off the final 2 overs. A four and a single from Court put Long on strike. A dot ball was followed with one of the biggest sixes ever seen at Orlingbury road and then a four as Long decided the best way to shut the chirpy Town players up was to let his bat do the talking!!! 15 off the over meant 6 needed of the final over for the win. Court dispatched the first ball, a short pitched one for 4 through deep cover. Another bouncer followed, and flew through to the keeper. Again another short ball came in which was flat batted for 4 to give Isham a well deserved win with 3 balls to spare!!

10.05.09 - Saturday Sides Stumble

It was a poor day for both Saturday sides as the 1st XI struggled on a poor pitch away at Old Northamptonians, whilst the 2nd XI faired little better with a losing draw at home to Harlestone.

The 1st XI would have felt confident of victory during tea after keeping the hosts down to a moderate score of 211 for 9 from their 50 overs. Andy Law was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 63 from his 15 overs. But on a deteriating pitch, the ON’s spinners took full advantage – Waqar Ali helping himself to 6 wickets from 13.1 overs. Tim Robinson top scored for Isham with 47 before falling to Ali.

Back at Isham, the 2nd might look back on this as a missed chance as they could only score 165 from their 50 overs, leaving them 50 short of the target. Earlier Harlestone were bowled out but not before Matt Haeper (38) Rajiv Raval (34) and Michael Allen (30) had put together useful knocks in the middle order to set Isham 216 to win. Peter Wills and Dave Hobbs both picked up 3 wickets.

In reply Ian Kelland scored 82 whilst Abid Zia scored a quickfire 33, but overs were running out and Isham decided on the taking the losing draw points.

08.05.09 - 2 Wins From 2 For Under 17s

The U-17's played host to Raunds on a breezy overcast evening and the opening bowling attack of E.Hayes and D.Conyard restricted the visitors to 32 for 2 off the first 8 overs. The next 4 overs came from O.Brown and J.Claypole picking up a further wicket leaving Raunds on 56 for 3 off 12. With Raunds looking to increase the tempo  it was up to V.Mistry and A.Waring to close out the innings. Some lusty blows from the Raunds middle order saw them  finish on 93 for 6 with V.Mistry picking up a couple of wickets along the way.

Captain E.Leach opened with A.Waring to begin the chase with Alex dominating most of the strike up until the 6th over which saw the first Isham wicket tumble, that of the skipper mis-timing a pull shot. V.Mistry came in at 3 and put on a partnership of 46 before being bowled taking the score to 69 for 2 off 12. As the light faded next in was J.Claypole who batted with a new sense of control and together with Alex eased Isham over the winning line in the 16th over.

11.05.09 - Adam's Century See Isham Home

The Sunday XI once again saved Isham's weekend by completing another 10 wicket victory against Rutland League opposition, this time at home to Yaxley.

On a dry but flat pitch, Yaxley chose to bat first but soon found themselves in trouble, as two early wickets fell. Captain D. Straten steadied the ship with 73, but wickets were falling regularly at the other end resulting in the visitors reaching 191 all out from 44 overs. Adam Somerfield took 3 wickets.

In reply Isham showed no signs of taking the foot off the gas as Adam Somerfield (108n) continued his good afternoon and along with Kalvin Lodder (77no) the pair took advantage of some wayward bowling. Adam was dropped at mid-wicket with 90 on the board – the only time either Isham batsman looked in difficulty.

06.05.09 - Under 13s Open With A Win

Isham under 13's started the season with a comfortable win over Kettering. Batting first in damp conditions, we started steadily and a quick fire 23n/o from Luke Conyard took Ishams score to 56 for 4.

A very tight bowling performance by Ishams bowlers kept Kettering well below the asking rate. Everytime Kettering tried to up the pace they lost a wicket. Captain Kishan with 2 wickets and Luke rounding off a man of the match perfomance with 2 wickets as well.

05.05.09 - Century Heros See Isham Home

It was an easy win for the home side as both Adam Somerfield and Kalvin Lodder scored a century a piece to see Isham to a commanding score of 243-5 from their 40 overs. At the other end Peter Short took 4 wickets to stop the visitors getting anywhere near the target.

Batting first, Isham lost opener Elliott Leach early on, but this brought on Lodder at number three, and together with Somerfield the pair took apart the Lubenham bowling - although it wasn't all straight forward as both were dropped at various points of their innings. Adam's 106no included 17 fours, whilst Kalvin went at a slightly more pedestrian pace for his 100 - 11 fours and 1 six.

In reply Lubenham started poorly as Damien Conyard took two early wickets. L. Skinner steaded the ship with 49, but he was eventually bowled by Short and the batting collapse began. A quick fire 30no from R. Simms helped to give the visitors' score a hint of respectability as the game was closed out by part time spinner Somerfield!

01.05.09 - Under 17s Up For The Cup

The Isham under 17s have already matched their total wins from last season, after a convincing win away at Earls Barton in the last 16 of the Higham League Cup. The under 17s now progress to the quarter finals and will face either Rushden or Raunds.

And it was a star performance with the ball from Damien Conyard that set up the platform for the win. His figures of 4 – 3 – 2 – 5 allowed Isham to restrict the home side to 59 – 6 from their 18 overs. Elliot Hayes also chipped in with a tight 4 overs and claimed 2 wickets.

Isham continued to turn the screw with the bat, as A Waring (32) and V. Mistry (20) knocked off the runs with relative ease to give the under 17s a 10 wicket win. Is this the year for silverware?!

27.04.09 - 1st XI Start With A Defeat

The 1st XI could not cause an early upset away to Wellingborough as the home side easily reached their target of 258 for victory. After their exploits last Sunday, Ben Reid (64) and Chris Harrison (62) carried on their good form by putting on 98 for the 2nd wicket and gave Isham a strong platform to build on. Simon Court (41), Dave Jarvis (35) and Tim Robinson (31) added to score.

But in reply Wellingborough seemed relatively untroubled by the Isham bowling attack as Tim Coleman (81), Marcus Andrew (75) and Sheldon Kearns (67no) bulldozed their way through Isham’s bowlers – Marcus Andrew’s strike rate was a pacey 166.6! The 1st XI now look forward to putting things back on track at home to Weekley and Warkton.

27.04.09 - Zingari Taught A Lesson!

It was a poor start for the Zingari as Leiecester Teachers thrashed the visitors by 120 runs. But it could have been oh so different had Teacher’s skipper Zaheer Mohammed not been dropped for 7, and later on for 22. He went on score 136 and change the face of the game. Dan Howard (48) and Dale Stean (33) added valuable runs as the home side raced to 287 for 6 from their 40 overs. Neil Shah came away with the best bowling figures for Isham, taking 3 for 56 from 11 overs, whilst Peter Short, Ollie Brown and James Claypole all took a wicket a piece.

In reply Isham started brightly enough with Mark Hayes and David Kelland looking to score quickly. Kelland was lost early falling LBW to Tony Crompton bringing Stuart Hardy to the crease and despite a fighting 27 from himself and 21 for Mark Hayes, the runs weren’t being scored quick enough and with 10 overs to go Isham were still 195 runs behind. Steve Jackson contributed 29 but the star again was Shah as he added 52 late on in the innings, and along with Short (17no) added 44 in just 6.3 overs, and showed the team what might have been.

27.04.09 - Walk In The Park For Overstone

The 2nd XI couldn’t quite cross the line against Overstone Park, and could only secure a losing draw after falling 22 runs short of their target. Batting first the visitors posted a monstrous 277-7 dec. with Ben Hartley top scoring with 95. He was helped along his way by Vikesh Patel (50) and Tom Cook (52no). All of the Isham bowlers found it difficult, with Mark Norton achieving the best figures of 5-0-27-2.

In reply Isham replied in a strong fashion, but not before Jim Lyon fell for 0. Ian Kelland (83) and debutante Abid Zia (78) put on 161 between them. Even with the 5 extra overs in the 2nd innings for both teams to find a positive result, Isham never looked in danger of being bowled out, whilst at the same time not giving Overstone too much concern about surpassing their score.

20.04.09 - Chris Starts The Season With A Bang

It's played one, won one for Peter Short's men, as the Sunday XI thrashed Orton Park at Orlingbury Road. And it was Chris Harrison who stole the headlines with a splendid knock of 114no which included 15 fours and 5 sixes!

Batting first Orton Park struggled from the off - with overseas Adam Somerfield showing some devastating pace. At drinks Orton had only 77 runs on the board. A Wright helped the visitors to a reasonable score of 171-8 from 45 overs, scoring 69 before being stumped off the bowling of Dave Jarvis. Dave finished with 2 wickets as did Somerfield and Sunil Sukhdeo.

But no one could have quite expected the sheer dominance of the Isham batsman as runs flowed throughout the innings. Chris was aided by Ben Reid who ended on 49no.

The cricket season has well and truly begun!

Back home he plays for Tea Tree Gully Cricket Club in the SACA Adelaide Competition - he is a quick opening bowler who also bats a bit (don't they all?)

Adam arrives in the UK on Wednesday and the aim is to meet in Orlingbury for a meet and greet. If you can't make Wednesday then Adam is playing in the opening game of the season on Sunday the 19th of April - so come and say hello!

25.03.09 - Net Sessions

Senior winter nets have been successful overall this season, with a large number of the senior members turning up to at least ONE of them! The final indoor net at Southfields school is this coming Monday – 30th of March.

With the clocks going forward shortly it means we can start thinking about outdoor nets! They will take place on Thursdays this year. The first one will be on the 9th of April, kicking off at 5:30pm. As the nights get longer this will eventually become 6pm.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

24.03.09 - Work Party Organised

Horray - the cricket season is now only 3 weeks away and for those of you sick and tired of hearing about six nations woes and Kettering Town FC's success, you'll be looking forward to the start of the season!

The ground has been lovingly prepared and looked after by last years groundsman Des and we thank him hugely for his efforts over the winter. But there are other parts of the ground that need working on before the first fixture takes place.

So a work party has been organised for Sunday the 5th of April. The fun starts at 9am and there will be bacon sarnies and a fresh brew waiting for those who help out.

15.03.09 - Shorty Named Sunday Skipper

Peter Short has been named as Isham's Sunday 1st XI skipper for 2009. It's not all bad news though as on field assistance will be provided by several of the senior playing members.

The Sunday XI has yet ANOTHER tough season ahead, having been promoted to division 2 of the Rutland League starting with a home time against Orton Park on the 19th of April. This match is also a chance for Saturday league players to have a game under their belts before the NCL season starts.

Those who wish to play need to contact Peter ASAP on 07747 374638 or
