1st XI keep up winning streak while 2nd XI draw.
The1st XI made it 3 out of 3 wins at Orlingbury Road in the space of 3 weeks. Winning the toss Isham put visitors Thrapston in to bat on a typical hard and flat Isham wicket. Somerfield struck early removing opener Thurbon for 0. A sustained period of 25 overs of tight bowling from Law and Somerfield meant Thrapston made very slow progress, and at the halfway mark were only just past the 50 run mark. With wickets in hand the inevitable run chase started and both runs and wickets began to accumulate. Isham were reduced to 10 men as Shaun Wills had to leave the field due to injury. This left gaps in the field which Stoker took advantage of finishing unbeaten on 48. Thrapston finishing their 50 overs on 195-8. Law returning fine figures of 15-38-2 and Nilesh Patel taking 4 wickets on his comeback bowling spell for the 1st XI.
Tea was taken with Isham knowing that they key was to bat 50 overs - 195 being an underpar score at Orlingbury road. Robinson and Reid started well until Robinson was undone with a yorker from skipper Pamplin. After his best display of the year behind the stumps Harrison was batting well and with the score past 80 played his first rash shot to be caught off a skied leading edge. Somerfield joined Reid and played positively racing to 36 off 23 balls before being given LBW which most felt (including the opposistion) was a harsh decision. With 50 still needed Skipper Court joined Reid and again carried on where Somerfield had left off with positive strokes. By now Reid was again looking at another big score and the match was won in the 41st over. Court unbeaten on 30 and Reid on 74 not out to take him 2 runs short of 500 in 9 games at an average of 124.5, an amazing start to the season.
Ben Reid - 498 runs @ 125.4 in 8 innings.
The 2nd XI desperatley needed to end a run of 3 defeats. Away to Overstone they won the toss and asked the home team to bat first. On the usual Overstone 'road' and quick outfield the opening attack of Smith and White found it hard going as did replacements Barlow and Conyard. Openers Hartley and Patel putting on 155 for the opening wicket. Isham managed to remain positive and the introduction of Wildman's legspin slowed down the runs and saw him take 4-18 off his 10 over spell. With Hartley reaching his 100 and then finally being removed by Byers, Overstone called an end to their innings after 48 overs with 236 on the board.
Isham's reply started steadily with all the top 4 batsmen getting starts but none really carrying on to get a big score which was really needed if 236 was ever to be chased down. Kingsnoth and White combined well but a middle order collapse meant Ryan Conyard and Paul Byers had to play out for the draw. Isham finishing on 159-8. A good result after a fine batting display from Overstone took the win away from them. Three consecutive home fixtures will hopefully see a change in fortunes.
