Here's what happened in 2007!

News Archive 2006 2007 2008 2009

New Faces On the Committee - 8th Dec 2007

For those that didn't attend, Isham had an AGM on the 29th of November, where many things came to pass including the election of our new 1st team skipper Simon Court - His manifesto of PRE-MATCH training and team bonding activity weekends didn't put off the members too much! George Chudley becomes possibly the youngest 1st team vice captain (I will have to check on that) whilst also continuing his great work with the Sunday XI as skipper. Pete Wills retains the top job for the 2nd XI whilst Eddie Arthey hopes to continue to improve the fortunes of the Zingari XI.

On the committee we welcome Tim Waring who has taken on the monster role of Secretary, whilst Shaun Wills becomes Bar Chairman. The role of Social Secretary was given to Christopher Scopes.

Isham CC would like to thank those members who served on the committee in 2007 and a special thanks to both Sarah Chudley and Jim Lyon who have stepped down - together their efforts have been nothing short of monumental and everyone connected with the club are eternally grateful.

Update on Isham's Overseas - 15th Nov 2007

Johan Myburgh made his debut for Canterbury this week - in somewhat unfortunate circumstances.

Having completed the switch from South Africa to New Zealand during our 'summer', Johan made his bow by collecting a first-ball duck. However he did bounce back in the second innings by scoring a match-saving 60 as his side avoided defeat against Auckland.

This year's overseas has also made a steady start to his season in Pakistan. Agha Sabir - the terror of many bowling attack in 2007 - has played his part in Pakistan International Airlines' unbeaten start to the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
His top score in the four completed matches so far is 55 but he has helped his team become the early leaders of Group B.

Isham End the Season With a Win - 24th Sep 2007

Isham’s final game of the 2007 season ended in victory - but only just as the final batting pair of Hobbs and Bolar saw the team home by just 1 wicket.
Appleton had been piped at the post the day before against Kettering - losing by just 1 run, and will feel disapointed at losing this one after restricting Isham to just 39 - 3.

Batting first Appleton (and Isham) were suprised to find some extra bounce in the pitch, as on the final ball of his first over, Dave Hobbs innocuous short delivery lifted and smashed into opener's A Hurst's helmet. He retired back to the pavilion as was replaced by S. Reece, who together with A. Warham, started up a partnership which frustrated the Isham bowlers. Reece finally fell to Alex Brown, trying to hook a short delivery. Peter Short was waiting at square leg. Short struck soon after to remove A. Warham who had by then past the half century mark. M. Chumberland and S. MacGregor started to push on and threatened to post a score over 225 for the visitors. However skipper George Chudley brought himself on for the first time in 2007 and helped to restrict Appleton to 195 from their 40 overs.

In reply, Isham started steadily, with Dave Andrews and Peter Short seeing out the first 11 overs. However the run rate was rising and first Short, then Brown fell trying to up the tempo. Kalvin Lodder settled things down with 71, and Isham were set favourite for victory. But with several wickets falling cheaply at the lower end of the order, it required a cool head from both Dave Hobbs and Mark Bolar to seal the victory.

Oakham Are Div 4 Champions - 24th Sep 2007

Whilst Isham were in progress against Appleton, Oakham were going about winning the Rutland League championship at home to Loddington. By 5:30pm, the league title was there's, after chasing down Loddington's poor total of just 116.

Isham therefore finish runners up by 12 points and will rue the two defeats against Long Sutton and Whittlesey. Both Isham and Oakham will take their places in Division 3 next season.

Season Ends This Weekend - 19th Sep 2007

Isham’s final game of the 2007 season takes place this Sunday, as the Sunday XI take on Appleton CC, who will be making the short journey from Cheshire! The Sunday XI will be eager to play after the disappointment of Victoria Road CC not turning up for their fixture last week. There will also be one eye on the Oakham CC game against Loddington. Oakham require 8 points from the fixture to be crowned champions of divison 4 of the Rutland league. Anything less then Isham will remain at the top and become the first Isham side to win a league since 1992.

You support will be much appreciated this Sunday, so please come on to cheer the boys and see the final ball bowled in the 2007 season.

It Takes Two To Beat Isham - 18th Sep 2007

Isham’s league season ended in defeat, after a superb knock of 128 from Kettering’s Steven Wilson helped to give the visitors victory. He was well supported by Jeremy Lines (64) as the pair saw the entire innings through and turned a good win for Kettering into a thrashing.
Batting first Isham would have been reasonably happy with their total of 220, although being bowled out with 3.1 overs remaining wouldn’t have pleased skipper Shaun Wills. Ben Reid (48) and Dave Barlow (40) made the major contributions to the Isham total.
But in the field it was a different tale as 7 bowled tried and could remove a Kettering batsman. Indeed the visitors took a liking to the bowling of Dave Hobbs – Hobbs being despatched for 42 runs from his 4 overs!
The Isham 1st XI finish 7th in Divison 1 of the NCL, with Wollaston becoming the eventual winners.

Vettori Takes Over From 'Flem' - 12th Sep 2007

Daniel Vettori has replaced Stephen Fleming as captain of the New Zealand Test team, with his predecessor also announcing his retirement from one-day cricket. Isham hero Fleming who has recent led Nottinghamshire to promtion in the County Championship, played in 279 one-day internationals in a career spanning 13 years. He scored 8,007 runs at an average of 32.40.

“I am fully committed to the Black Caps and New Zealand Cricket but feel that the time is right for me to retire from the one-day game,” Fleming said. “While I would have wished to remain captain of the Test team, I can also understand why the selectors prefer to have a single captain for the Test, one-day and Twenty20 teams.”

Fleming has recently hinted that he may retire from all cricket at the end of 2008.

End Of Season BBQ This Saturday - 10th Sep 2007

The competitive season ends this Saturday, as the Isham 1st XI take on local rivals Kettering Town at Orlingbury Road. After what will be a scortcher of a match, the temperature will be turned up to HOT HOT HOT, with the end of season BBQ taking place straight after.

Please come along and support this event as everyone connected to the club will be there - from youth players to committee memebers.

Cavalier Jack Sinks Northampton - 10th Sep 2007

Isham’s Sunday XI edged past Northampton Cavaliers who visited Orlingbury Road for the first time in 10 years. It was Jack Chopping who made most of a superb batting track, smashing 125, and together with Kalvin Lodder (88), the pair put on a 4th wicket partnership of 198.

Chasing 267 for victory in just 40 overs, the Cavs made a good effort with the run chase, but were always too far behind the run rate after tight opening spells from Phil Glenn and Alex Brown. Jack couldn’t keep out of the spotlight, taking a hat - trick (all three were stumpings) near the end of the innings.

All Too Easy for Weekley - 9th Sep 2007

Weekley & Warkton eased to victory against Isham's 1st XI, after chasing a relatively low total. Batting first, Isham were bowled out for just 134. Andrew Reynoldson (33), Ben Reid (21) and Jim Lyon (20) the only contributors with the bat.

In reply, Weekley reached their target thanks to 52* from Josh McLaughlan and 30 from Ben Jolley. Both Jack Chopping and Andrew Reynoldson picking up two consolation wickets a piece.

Sunday XI - Division 4 Champs??? - 3rd Sep 2007

The Sunday XI have done all they can to become Division 4 champions of the Rutland league, after beating Oakham at the Lime Kilns. Now bitter rivals Oakham decided to bat first and immediately gave Isham with Will Stuart Jones and Fabian Taylor putting on 55 for the first wicket. Stuart-Jones fell to Simon Court, and Simon took a second wicket soon after to slow the run rate. But Oakham skipper, Mark Worthington, who creamed the ball to all parts in the earlier fixture once again proved a problem for the Isham bowling. He and Taylor put on 102 for the third wicket before Worthington was trapped LBW by David Hobbs. Jack Chopping’s second spell proved more fruitful with Jack taking 4 wickets. However Oakham continued to score runs freely with monster hitter James Booth scoring a quick fire 50 which included three sixes.

240 was the total to chase and began poorly, with Will Chudley losing his wicket early on to James Daymond – Daymond going on to take five wickets in the match. Fellow opener Kalvin Lodder had other ideas – grinding out a matching winning innings of 93*. Contributions from Jack Chopping (42), Simon Court (33) and Dave Hobbs (27) saw Isham over the line and end a fine season in the Rutland league.

Jack & Agha Rip Apart Geddington - 2nd Sep 2007

Isham 1st XI were visited by high spending Geddington who’s hopes of winning the league were fading fast. Winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, Isham made a fine start, reducing Geddington to 37 – 3 – Andy Law and Jack Chopping taking the wickets. But half centuries from Tiann Raubenheimer and Lee Pollard steadied the ship for Geddington as the pair put on 106 for the 4th wicket. Jack Chopping finally removed Pollard for 56 and from then on Geddington’s innings collapsed – losing 5 further wickets for just 59 runs. Jack Chopping once again proving his quality, taking 6 wickets from his 14 overs.

In reply, Isham set about the target at rapid pace, with Tim Robinson looking to score from every ball. He and Agha Sabir put on 58 for the first wicket before Tim fell for 36. Andy Reynoldson joined Agha in the middle, and together the pair put on 104 to keep the momentum going. Agha, who had been dropped earlier in the innings, was eventually out for 85. Whilst Andy carried his bat with 54 – he and Ben Reid saw Isham over the line – with 14.2 over to spare.

2nd XI Show The Old How It's Done - 2nd Sep 2007

The 2nd XI must being thinking “what might have been”. After going on a run of 7 wins, the last of which was an away victory over table topping Old. Better results from earlier in the season would have meant winning the division was a serious possibility. However securing 2nd place and a win over the league leaders will have to do for this season.
Isham were asked to bowl first and despite an early wicket from Stephen Kelly, the visitors were made to graft throughout the innings. Tight spells from Kelly, David Hobbs and Sunil Sukhdeo meant Old never picked up the pace. The host reached a reasonable 180 from their 45 overs.

The super opening partnership of Kelland and Chudley took to the field again, both making starts. Ian fell for 19, George following shortly after with 23. Stuart Hardy and Will Chudley continued the platform - Stuart very unlucky to not reach his 50, after being ran out on 48. Further contributions from Albert Luck and Jim Lyon saw Isham home with an over to spare.

Memorable Weekend for Isham - 28th August 2007

It was a “top bombing” weekend for all three league teams, with all three sides winning and both the 2nd XI and Sunday XI gaining promotion.

The 2nd XI were the first to celebrate with a hard fought win at home to East Haddon. Batting first, Isham had a slight wobble during the innings, finding themselves at 63 for 4. But half centuries for Dave Hobbs (51*) and Jim Lyon (62*) took the home side to a reasonable score of 176 for 4, from their 45 overs.

In reply East Haddon found it tough, as wickets fell at regular intervals. Gary Oakenfull (37) offered the most resistance for the visitors, but once he had been clean bowled by the skipper Pete Wills, the contest was effectively over. Dave Barlow ripped through the lower order finishing with 3.1 – 0 – 15 – 4, whilst Pete Wills finished with 3 wickets. The 2nd have now cemented their 2nd place in the league table, and now cannot be caught by the chasing teams – Division 6 cricket next season!

The Sunday XI had a much more comfortable game at home to Laxton Park. Needing only 2 points to guarantee promotion, the pressure was somewhat off the team. George Chudley decided to bat first, and immediately he and Kalvin Lodder began to play some shots - after 10 overs Isham were 74 without loss. Kalvin fell just after reaching his 50, bringing in Albert Luck. Albert continued Kalvin’s start as he a George put together a partnership of 107, and took Isham past 200. Will Chudley came to the run-fest late on, scoring 53 in the last 9 overs!

Chasing 289 for victory, Laxton never really attempted the run chase. Charlie Henson, playing in his first game for two months, took two wickets in his first spell, whilst Dave Hobbs bowled an impeccable spell of 6 – 3 – 6 – 0. A. Renton was the only notable batsmen in the visitor’s top order, scoring 52. He was finally removed by Peter Short, who the over before had clean bowled O. Hall. With Laxton struggling on 105 for 5 with just 15 over remaining, the result wasn’t in doubt. M. Wills ruined the figures for both Short and Danks, smashing 67 in the latter stages of the innings. He was finally undone by Chris Pekins who took a 2nd wicket two balls later to give Isham a further bowling point, and end the match on a high.
The title decided takes place next Sunday, when Isham visit Oakham at the Lime Kilns.

Not forgetting that there was a 1st XI fixture on this weekend, a short journey to Great Oakley. And it was Agha Sabir who again caused problems for the opposition, first smashing 96 runs, and then taking five wickets.
Batting first Isham started strongly as Tim Robinson and Agha put on 82 for the first wicket. Tim fell for 36 and with further contributions from Kalvin Lodder (35) and Tim Orsborn (25), Isham reached 261 from their 50 overs.

Great Oakley, desperate for points had no choice but to chase down the target. Things didn’t start well, as Ryan Bell fell on the 2nd ball of the innings to Andrew Law. Ed Sumpter fell soon after, again at the hands of Andrew Law. Greig Hofbauer proved the only thorn in Isham’s side, smashing 94 from just 96 balls. But at the other end, Agha was on a rampage returning with figures of 15 – 5 – 33 – 5. Great Oakley have now been relegated to Divison two after this result.

The scheduled friendly at home against Grendon, has been moved to the 30th of September.

Maximum Points For Sunday XI - 20th August 2007

Despite the awful weather on Sunday, the Isham Sunday XI have all but certainly achieved promotion this season to Division 3 of the Rutland league. Histon cancelled their match with Isham because of player availability. With no other teams picking up points this weekend, Isham now need just three points from their two remaining games to guarantee promotion.

Promotion ON for 2nd XI - 19th August 2007

Isham’s 2nd XI must surely now taste promotion after beating ON’s 4th XI. With the weather affecting other team’s around them, Isham now have a 27 point cushion from third place Wellingborough Town, and a further 21 points on Gretton in fourth.

Electing to field first, Isham restricted ON’s to 119 from their 45 overs. Sunil Shudheo and Dave Hobbs once again inflicting most of the damage – both taking three wickets a piece, and Hobbs bowling 7 maidens.

With the weather closing in, Isham need to knock off the runs quickly. Kalvin Lodder graced the 2nd XI for the first time this season, and duly smashed 66*. With assistance from Ian Kelland (28), the visitors passed the required total for the loss of just two wickets.

The 1st XI’s push for the top third of the league was halted by the weather. Batting first, Isham were in a strong position before the rain began to fall – 145 for the loss of just two wickets.

Sunday XI Fall At Whittlesey - 13th August 2007

A woeful performance by the Sunday XI has meant their aspirations of becoming Rutland league division 4 champions took a massive dent. Isham lost by 112 runs, away to Whittlesey. Isham travelled up the A605 knowing that Oakham weren’t playing, so every point was needed to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Fielding first Isham struggled from the off, failing to find any
momentum throughout the innings. Poor bowling, silly mistakes in the field and opportunities not taken resulted in Whittlesey posting a healthy score of 213 for 5. Two late wickets from Peter Short went someway to preventing the score getting any higher.

Chasing 214, the visitors again struggled. The first five overs were all maidens as Whittlesey continued their strangle hold on the match.
The opening pair of George Chudley and Chris Long soon got going
but the task had already been made harder with such a slow start. A big innings was going to be needed if Isham had any chance of winning. That innings never came as wickets fell at regular intervals. Andy Reynoldson offered some resistance, but after he was stumped for just 12, the writing was on the wall for Isham. Nilesh Patel and Peter Short ensure that Isham scored at least one batting point. But Short fell soon after, and the innings finished with Isham on 101.

Isham now face an uphill battle if they wish to finish the season as champions. However Isham must still be favourites to go up, as Histon were unable to field a team away to Long Sutton.

Isham Defeat W'borough Twice! - 18th August 2007

Isham’s Saturday sides can give themselves a pat on the back, after both chalked up victories against Wellingborough Town.
The 1st XI had a difficult tie away to promotion chasing Wellingborough 1st XI. Isham won the toss and put the home side into bat. It initially proved a poor decision as Wellingborough started their innings strongly. But some exceptionally tight bowling from Agha Sabir and Andrew Reynoldson pegged Wellingborough back. Andrew finished with superb figures of 15 – 4 – 25 – 3.
Chasing 207 for victory, Isham couldn’t have got off to a better start, with both Ben Reid (73) and Andrew Reynoldson (34) getting amongst the runs. Agha Sabir continued his fine form by adding 49 and in the process taking Isham within 40 runs of victory. Gareth Eaton and Nilesh Patel saw the visitors over the line.

The 2nd XI also chose to field first and had immediate success with 3 wickets falling in the early overs. Mark Howes (31) and Stephen Waterworth (62) steadied Wellingborough’s innings. The visitors finshed with 177 from their 45 overs.
In reply Isham made hard work of chasing down the target – 8 wickets falling before they hit the winning runs. David Hobbs top scored with 34, whilst Stuart Hardy added 30 to the score. Sunil Sukhdeo also had a strong game, after taking three wickets in the field, he added 24 before being trapped LBW.

Youth Awards Night - 8th August 2007

As the youth cricket season draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on their season’s. What better way than an inter-Isham cricket match followed by the awards night.

It all takes place on the 31st of August with the match starting at around 6:15pm and the awards following straight after.

Both youth players and parents are welcome to attend on what should be a good night.

Sunday XI Go Clear At The Top - 6th August 2007

The Sunday XI extended their lead at the top of the Rutland league division 4 after a comprehensive victory over struggling Uffington CC.

On a scorching, hot day, both teams were presented with a lightening outfield and a pitch that had had 550+ runs scored on it the day before. Skipper George Chudley won the toss and decided to field first. It proved a master stroke as Jack Chopping went about single handily ripping out the Uffington top order. Jack finished with impeccable figures of 6 – 2 - 10 – 5. Dave Hobbs joined the action taking 3 wickets, whilst Kalvin Lodder took the other two. Uffington were all out, for 44, from 15.3 overs.

With tea a long way off, Isham set about knocking off the overs. To score maximum points, the home side needed to score the 45 required in 9 overs. Openers George Chudley and Ben Garlick set about the task with relative ease, although Ben Garlick was given an extra life (and several others) when Uffington bowler Guy Cunningham bowled Garlick in the 2nd over. However the square leg umpire gave a no ball for too many fielders on the leg side – when in fact the “rouge” fielder was Isham’s own James Bilson idly walking around the boundary.

With the controversy over, both batsmen found runs easy to come by and despite Garlick falling in the 5th over, the score was at 42 and Isham were well ahead of the run rate.
Isham’s day got better when the news that title rivals Oakham had lost away to Histon. The title race hots up even more next week, when the Sunday XI visit Whittlesey.

Two Draws On Saturday - 5th August 2007

With the 2nd XI having a gap in the fixtures, most of the attention was at Orlingbury Road where the 1st XI took on ON’s 2nd XI – both teams were level on points at the start of the game. On a hard a true surface, Isham batted first and posted a healthy total of 282 for 7 from their 50 overs. Agha Sabir continued his good form with 93, whilst Andy Reynoldson hit his highest score of the season with 88. Jack Chopping also decided to join the fun, cracking 43 from just 28 balls, including 4 x 4s and 2 x 6s.

In reply ON’s made a decent effort in trying to chase down the target, Marcus Silver causing the most fustration for the home side with a superb knock of 135. Sean Wilkes also added 35 but with 10 overs remaing and the visitors requiring 10 an over, ON’s decided to hold out for the draw. The winning draw sees Isham go ahead of ON’s in the table.

Meanwhile the Zingari also earnt themselves a draw in the warm summer sun at Harborough South. Tom Mullen had a solid day with both the bat and ball, taking two wickets and top scoring for the Zingers with 54. The outright win was still on the cards with 11 overs to go, but with batsmen getting out at the oppisite end, Mullen couldn’t quite see the visitors over the line and was eventually bowled after trying one shot too many. His knock included 3 x 6s and 6 x 4s. Peter Short and John Goddard saw out the last 9 overs.

Earlier on, the home side had posted 183 for 9 in a 42 / 38 over game which allowed for the opition of a draw. John Goddard also picked up two wickets along with Mullen, whilst Dave Kelland rolled back the years, running out a Harborough South batsmen with a direct hit from Mid On.

Isham Fall Short In Twenty20 - 1st August 2007

Isham bowed out of the Sportsframe County Plate, after falling well short of the required total at Wellingborough Indians. In glorious evening sunshine, Isham were asked to field first – after the first 6 overs, skipper Shaun Wills would have been pleased to have restricted the Indians to just 36. The tight bowling continued when Kalvin Lodder was brought into the attack. He took two wickets and along with the skipper, Isham were keeping the runs down. Jack Chopping and Andy Reynoldson closed the innings – Andy unlucky not to get a wicket after George Chudley spilt a relatively easy chance.

Chasing just 137 for victory, Isham started strongly, with the methodical batting of Reynoldson and Lodder leaving the home side scratching their heads. But when it was time to put the foot on the gas, Isham had left it too late. With 7 overs to go the visitors required 67 and the order to “swing the bat” was given. It resulted in five Isham batsmen falling for first ball ducks, and the score being reduce from 80 for 2 to 84 for 8 in just two overs! The Indians wrapped up the innings soon after - Shaun Wills leaving a straight one, and Shorty was unfortunate to be bowled, after bravely taking on the run chase single handily with a flurry of shots.

Isham can now concentrate on the league again after this defeat in the cup. That begins at home to Old Northamptonians this Saturday.

Isham Get That Winning Feeling! - 30th July 2007

All three teams enjoyed good results this weekend, as the 1st XI left Wollaston with a winning draw, the 2nd XI were victorious at home against Ashby Timken, whilst the Sunday XI stay at the top of the league after easing past Loddington.

The 1st XI can be proud of their efforts on Saturday, after a superb performance away at promotion chasing Wollaston. Batting first Isham got off to a rocky start, losing 3 wickets within the first 11 overs, but Agha Sabir, took the game by the scruff of the neck scoring his first century for Isham and took the visitors past the 200 mark. Chasing 208 to win, Wollaston struggled to keep up with the required run rate throughout their innings, until a flurry of runs from J. Pike and C. Perry got the home side close to the total. However wickets were falling at regular intervals and needing 11 from the last over to win, Wollaston fell short by 4 runs and almost lost the game completely when J. Connon was almost ran out on the final ball. Despite only getting a losing draw, Wollaston went top after Wellingborough Town lost away at Kettering.

The 2nd XI had a slightly more comfortable game at home to Ashby Timken – restricting the visitors to 139 from the 45 overs, George Chudley (61) and Dave Hobbs (35) gave Isham the platform to go on and win their third consecutive win. Stuart Hardy returning to the 2nd XI, saw the team home with 27 not out.

The Sunday boys are top of the table still, after thumping Loddington at Orlingbury Road. With a plethora of batsmen to chose from, George Chudley chose to bat first. George himself continued his good form for the weekend with 58, but Kalvin Lodder was the star of the show with 113. Isham set Loddington and tough target of 234 to chase down.
The chase became even tougher, when Loddington lost two wickets in the first two overs, and hadn’t even scored a run until the 6th over! Wickets continued to fall and despite hardy resistance from N. Patel, Loddington were all out for 134.

Twenty20 Date Confirmed - 26th July 2007

Laxton Cancelled For This Saturday - 26th July 2007

This Saturday's calsh away to Laxton for the Zingari has been cancelled - Laxton were unable to raise a team. However worry not cricket fans! The Isham 1st XI visit Wollaston on Saturday, whilst at Orlingbury Road, the 2nd XI face Ashby Timken.

On Sunday, Isham face a tough game at home to Loddington in the Rutland league. Your support is always appreciated.

Johannes Opts for New Zealand - 23rd July 2007

Isham’s overseas player for 2004 Johannes Myburgh, has joined the ever-growing band of South Africans plying their trade for Canterbury in New Zealand domestic cricket. Myburgh has been feeling constrained by the lack of opportunities with the Titans. He told CricInfo on Friday he was emigrating to New Zealand with the goal of playing for the Black Caps, for whom he will qualify in three years.

Myburgh, 26, was a batting prodigy at school in Pretoria and he broke Graeme Pollock's record for the youngest scorer of a double century in South African first-class cricket as a 17-year-old in 1997/98. But the attention probably didn't do him any good and he has never really kicked on, although playing for a franchise with a host of young batting stars hasn't helped.

"I've played well in the limited-overs games over the last couple of years, but I haven't got a chance in the four-day games, which has been my main frustration," was Myburgh's line of reasoning for his move.

Isham and Oakham Join Top - 22nd July 2007

The Sunday XI weren’t done any favours by the weather, with Oakham’s game at home to Long Sutton going ahead. Oakham ran out eventual winners and join Isham at the top, still with a game in hand. The 2nd of September becomes ever crucial as the top two will go head to head (hopefully for the title). Before then, Isham have a tricky period of fixtures, starting at home to Loddington this Sunday.

Saturday Success Lifts Isham - 22nd July 2007

It was a superb effort by both Isham Saturday teams - two victories were sealed moments before the rain tumbled down.

The 1st XI had little bother in disposing bottom side Corby S&L. Jack Chopping returning from Barbados caused most of the damage, taking four wickets, whilst Andy Law finished with very respectable figures of 8 – 5 – 7 – 2. The visitors were bowled out for 110.

With the weather closing in, Agha Sabir didn’t waste time in chasing down the runs. He smashed 76 runs in just 52 balls, including 10, fours and 2 sixes. Support at the other end from Andrew Reynoldson (30) ensured Isham the victory.

The 2nd XI had a tough game away to Weekley & Warkton, and after reaching just 121 from their 45 overs, victory became even tougher. Albert Luck top scored for Isham with 37, whilst Jim Lyon (23), Andrew White (12) and Pete Wills (14) helped steady the ship after Dave Hobbs and Ian Kelland fell in quick succession.

But Sunil Sukhdeo and Stephen Kelly got Isham off to a flier both taking wickets in their opening overs. Callum Steel and Dale Cotterell got Weekley & Warkton back on track, but David Hobbs continued his recent fine form and together with Pete Wills they removed the final 6 wickets for just 6 runs! Weekley & Warkton were all out for just 67.

England Call Up For Jasmine - 18th July 2007

Jasmine Titmuss’ superb road to the top has hit another high, having been selected for the England Development squad who host South Africa and New Zealand this summer. She will also be travelling to the Netherlands in August to represent England in the European Championships. Obviously everyone at Isham is very excited for her, and we wish her the best of luck throughout the summer.

England Development Squad
Jennifer Halstead (Captain, Cheshire), Tamsin Beaumont (Kent), Katie Cross (Lancs), Georgia Elwiss (Staffs), Danielle Hazell (Durham), Sophie Le Marchand (Worcs), Rochelle Petty (Yorks), Dawn Prestidge (Cheshire), Anya Shrubsole (Somerset), Anna Stevenson (Surrey), Jasmine Titmuss (Northants), Becky Williams (Somerset), Danielle Wyatt (Staffs)

Isham Through in the Twenty20 - 18th July 2007

Isham eased through to the next round of the Sportsframe Twenty20 Plate and will now face Raunds Town away. Mears Ashby who are top of the NCL Division 12, had no answers against an Isham side who batted, bowled and fielded proficiently for the entire match.

Batting first, Isham lost just one wicket during the innings and raced to 185-1 from the 20 overs. In reply the visitors were well off the pace, managing just 91-8, the only real resistance coming from Graham Kinnear (41).

Isham Success on President’s Day - 17th July 2007

The Isham XI proved too strong for the President’s invitation
XI this Sunday, as friends of the club got together to celebrate all things Isham. The match was reduced to 30 overs, as all of the players were filling up on a superb bbq, whilst Chris Scopes’ punch was being enjoyed a little too much by some of the players!

Batting first the President's XI reached 134 for 6 from the 30 overs. In reply, the Isham XI crossed the line with 10 overs to spare, and 6 wickets in hand.

Ducks All Round For Zingos - 17th July 2007

Another defeat for the firsts despite being in a strong position wasn’t too costly this weekend, as S&L, Great Oakley and Rothwell couldn’t produce a positive result. However the 1st XI’s defeat was over-shadowed somewhat by the Zingari’s thrashing away to the Rutland Ducklings CC. Bowled out for 30, Zingari found themselves shaking hands with the opposition at 4:04pm!

The 2nd XI though faired much better, with a thrilling victory away to Long Buckby, with the final wicket falling on the very last ball. The 2nd XI now rise to 4th in the league just two points away from a promotion place.

President's Day This Sunday - 13th July 2007

Join us in a celebration of all things Isham, as the annual President's Day match takes place at Orlingbury Road this Sunday.

Two strong teams have been put together to offer the best entertainment, whilst food and drink will be served all afternoon and well into the evening. The weather looks fine and a new barrel of Potbelly's "Streaky" has just been tapped so come on over this Sunday.

Mears Ashby in The County Plate - 11th July 2007

The County Plate game betwen Isham and Mears Ashby has been moved to Tuesday the 17th of July. The arrange under 15s game which was due to be played on that day is now on Monday the 16th of July instead.

We hope to see as many supporters at the club as possible - it is greatly appreciated.

Sunil Shines on Sunday - 10th July 2007

Under 17s star Sunil Sukhdeo bowled two magic spells away to Great Oakley, finishing with figures of 12 – 6 – 19 – 6, and gave the Sunday side their 4th consecutive win in the Rutland league. Andy Reynoldson and Dave Hobbs also bowled impeccable spells to restrict Great Oakley to just 141 all out. Will Chudley (54) and Nilesh Patel (49) scored the bulk over the runs to see Isham over the line.

All eyes will be on the chasing teams as the Sunday XI now have a
two week break until their next Rutland league fixture. They currently lead the table by 39 points.

No Wins for Isham Saturday Teams - 10th July 2007

It was a miserable day for Isham on Saturday despite the glorious weather that finally appeared in what is laughingly called the British Summer!

The 1st XI struggled away Wellingborough Indians after being dismissed for just 95 runs! Ben Reid top scoring with 42. However it took the home side over 40 overs to reach the small target.

The 2nd XI didn’t fair much better – a losing draw at home to table topers Old. The visitors managed a gettable 200 from their 45 overs, but the 2nds fell well short, managing just 126.

The Zingari had a tough game away to Boughton. Pat Freestone top scored with 75 in his first game back for over 2 years! Chasing 139 to win, Boughton reached the target in 23.3 overs despite tight bowling from T. Mullen and P. Short.

Mears Ashby in The County Plate - 3rd July 2007

Follow their narrow defeat to Wellingborough Town in the Sportsframe Twenty20, Isham will now take place in the County Plate. Isham have been drawn, at home to Mears Ashby. The tie will take place on Tuesday, 10th July - 6:10pm start time.

Your support is always most welcome.

Back to Back Wins for 1st XI - 2nd July 2007

The Isham 1st XI made it back to back victories this weekend with a superb batting performance against Kettering. Chasing 186 with 11 overs less than Kettering, Isham crossed the finish line with 15 balls to spare. Tim Robinson was the star of the innings with 92. Earlier on Nilesh Patel and Andy Law took two wickets a piece, whilst Agha Sabir took a further three in difficult conditions.

Weather Spoils Isham's Weekend - 2nd July 2007

The 2nd XI just can’t get a game at the minute with the awful weather hindering their league promotion chances. The 2nd XI have only played once in the whole of June. The Zingari were also due to play away to Uppingham – this fixture was called on at 10am.

And it was another blow to the Sunday XI who couldn’t take to the pitch at home to Long Sutton. Title rivals Oakham (who didn’t have a fixture) are only 19 points behind with 2 games in hand. As it stands though, if it rains for the rest of the season, Isham will be champions… Anyone know the rain dance?

Help Needed - 1st July 2007

With the Summer ball taking place this Friday, anyone who could lend
a hand on Thursday evening, moving tables and generally getting the place looking ship shape, your help would be greatly appreciated. People are meeting at the club at 6pm - 6:30pm. The bar will be open throughout!

Many thanks in advance

Sunday XI Still Top - 26th June 2007

The Sunday XI's game against Whittlesey was called off due to bad weather, however Isham still maintained their lead over Oakham as their game was also called off. Histon go third after beating Uffington at home.

Zingari Conquered By Ashton - 25th June 2007

The Zingari were on the wrong end of a thrashing on Saturday, being bowled out for 28! But Ashton didn't have it all their own way, having been pegged back to just 114 from their 40 overs. James Cox was the pick of the Zingari bowling, taking 4 wickets from his 8 overs. Whilst Mark Hedges rolled back the years taking two scintillating catches at Silly Mid On.
The Zingos now look forward to another away match, this time at Uppingham .

1st XI Off the Bottom - 25th June 2007

The 1st XI are now 10 points clear from the bottom after a resounding win at home to Great Oakley. With a strong side Isham always looked like getting the win. Isham's overseas Agha Sabir couldn't have made a better home debut, taking 4 wickets, whilst Kalvin Lodder took three, leaving the vistors on a poor score of 150 all out. Ben Reid re-discovered his from from earlier in the season, hitting 85 from 138 balls to lead Isham to the victory. Agha also contributed with the bat, 44 not out. Buoyed by their first win, the 1st XI take on local rivals Kettering next week.

Isham Bow Out Of Twenty20 - 20th June 2007

Isham fell at the first hurdle of the Sportsframe Twenty20 at the hands of Wellingborough Town, despite the best efforts of Jack Chopping who gave the home side a real scare.
Tight opening overs from Nilesh Patel and Simon Court got the game underway. Skipper Shaun Wills continued the pressure with 4 exceptional overs, and was unlucky to leave the field wicketless after dropping a catch from his own bowling. Wellingborough posted an average total of 137 from their 20 overs – a total which Isham felt confident they could chase down.

However the reply started poorly with only 5 runs coming from the first 2 overs. Andy Reynoldson and Tim Robinson both fell cheaply before Will Chudley and Jack Chopping put on a partnership. Jack raced past his fifty with the help of 4 maximums, and with 5 overs to go, Isham were cruising to victory. But 3 wickets fell in as many overs and too much was left on the shoulders of one player. Jack finally fell in the last over, and Isham ended up falling short of the target by 7 runs.

Isham now look forward to a crucial home game at home to Great Oakley, whilst in the shorter version of the game, they await the draw for the county plate.

Sunday XI – Top Of The League! - 18th June 2007

A sensational victory for the Sunday XI means they got clear at the top by 14 points, although Oakham do have a game in hand. From the first ball being bowled to the winning run coming off Jack Chopping's bat, Isham got it right, against a good side at a ground that is know for it’s friendly batting conditions. The bowling opening partnership of Chopping and Court gave nothing away and after the first 20 overs, Histon were struggling at 48 for 3. P. Johnston and G Lawton offered some fight putting on 67 for the 4th partnership, but the introduction of Richard Danks to the bowling, removed both batsmen within 3 overs. Histon, who hadn’t set a score under 210 all season, limped to 160 for 9 from the 45 overs.

Bouyed with the success in the field, Isham set about chasing the target in a sensible fashion. Nilesh Patel and Andy Reynoldson built a platform for the middle order to build on. It was that partnership again of Chopping and Court again who took Isham across the winning line, putting on 122 for the 3rd wicket – Jack (73) hitting 9 boundaries including 2 sixes whilst Simon (34) hit four boundaries in one over.

Isham must find their feet again, with another tricky tie on Sunday, at home to Whittlesey. 1:30pm start, why not come see a winning side?

Danks & Hobbs in Histon Take Over?
- 18th June 2007

Isham stalwarts David Hobbs and Richard Danks, were pictured outside Histon Football Club, with rumours of a possible take over not being denied by the pair.

Danks spoke to our reporter soon and said “With Histon now being in the BlueSquare National Conference this season, we thought we should show our good friend P Short, what a conference ground looks like”.

Short, who was also spotted at the ground, digging up the pitch, remained adamant that Kettering Town will reach the dizzy heights of the Conference National.

Rain Spoils Saturday - 18th June 2007

It was a wet weekend for both our sides, with the 1st XI abandoning their game away to Geddington at tea, whilst the 2nd XI didn’t get to bowl a ball.

The 1st XI maybe slightly more thankful for the rain as they were struggling when the rain came. Tight bowling from Lee Pollard, John Burdett and Tiann Raubenheimer resulted in Tim Robinson top scoring with 22 whilst only 4 other batsmen reached double figures. Isham found themselves at 109 for 9 from 42 overs when the weather intervened.

It was a warm welcome however, to Isham’s overseas player, Agha Sabir. Everyone at Isham wishes him the best of luck, over the rest of the 2007 season.

3 More Saturday Defeats - 12th June 2007

It wasn’t a good day at the office for any of our Saturday sides this weekend with all 3 teams losing.

The firsts will be unhappiest with their result after being in a superb position at tea. Batting first Isham amassed 254 from their 50 overs, with the bulk of the runs being scored by the top 7 batsmen – Simon Court (54), Richard Reynolds (40) and Andy Reynoldson (30).

Weekley in reply started their run chase at quite a pace. The first wicket partnership putting on a hundred runs from just 16 overs. Gareth Eaton came on to bowl and helped to slow the run rate, and was unlucky to have Ricky Joseph dropped on 35. Joseph kicked on to make 60, and with contributions throughout the Weekley batting, the visitors reached their target of 255 with 2.3 overs to spare.

The 2nd XI returned from their trip to Gretton, in time to soak up the pleasant evening sunshine at Orlingbury. Bowled out for just 105, it was always a tough ask to defend such a meagre score. Isham’s innings started will enough, with George Chudley (29) and Dave Hobbs (23) holding their own against the Gretton opening attack. But 3 ducks and only 2 other batsmen reaching double figures meant an early tea for the visiting Isham side. Gretton had no real problems in chasing down the target, Dave Hobbs and Pete Wildman picking up a token wicket a piece.

Isham Zingari faced an uphill battle before they even reached Houghton on the Hill with talisman keeper Steve Jackson stranded back in Northamptonshire! The home side reached 218 from their 40 overs. Stuart Hardy’s brave 44 wasn’t enough to help the Zingers to victory, Isham eventually all out for 125.

Isham - Win, Lose n' Draw - 4th June 2007

It was an exciting weekend of cricket this weekend for all our teams, as the 1st XI just missed out on an heroic run chase, the 2nd XI won on the final ball, and the Sunday XI were saved by the weather and some dubious league rules!

1st XI – Losing draw away to Rothwell. Tim Robinson’s 89 was not enough to help the Isham to a much needed win as the 1st XI missed out on victory by just 4 runs. Gareth Eaton batted sensibly to reach 58 whilst a quick-fire 29 from Simon Court made for a tense finish. But Rothwell’s score of 250 proved too much for the away side. Earlier on Simon Court and Will Chudley bagged a couple of wickets a piece but Andrew Jones (61), Nicky Kingsnorth (41) and Marcus Steed (31) helped the homeside to a healthy total.

2nd XI – Another exciting finish took place at Orlingbury Road, as Pete Wills’ men won by 2 wickets against ON’s 4th XI. Fielding first, Isham restricted ON’s to a meagre 158 – Sunil Suhkdeo taking 4 wickets whilst the skipper had an exceptional spell with the ball – 13 – 4 – 29 – 2.
In reply, George Chudley led the run chase with 51. Tim Norton chipped in a with 38 and the game was seemingly heading for an Isham win. But ON’s put on the breaks late on in the innings making the game much tighter. With 1 run required from the final ball,

Sunday XI – The rain spoilt this fixture between 1st and 2nd in the league which in truth the visitors were destined to win. Chasing 210 to win, Isham were 132 for 7 with 11.1 overs left when the rain came down. With no further play was possible which meant everyone was scrambling for their handbooks. League rules state that if a second innings cannot be completed, then the game is abandoned with each team taking the bonus points that had already gained. Oakham were understandably upset with the result – it makes for a fiery encounter in the return fixture on the last day of the season – hopefully the title will have been decided by then!

Sportsframe Twenty/20 Draw - 1st June 2007

Isham have been given a tough 1st round draw away to Wellingborough Town in the Sportsframe NCL Twenty Cup.

The fixture takes place on Tuesday, 19th of June 2007 with the winners of the tie then going on to face either Earls Barton or Mears Ashby at home in round 2.

For the full draw - CLICK HERE

Rain Doesn't Save the 1st XI - 29th May 2007

The weather impacted on two of Isham's games, as the Zingari were unable to finish their local derby away to Pytchley, whilst the Sunday XI didn't even get to bowl a ball at Loddington.

But the 1st and 2nd XI played to a finish and both slip further down their respective tables.

The 1st XI lost by 7 wickets at home to Wellingborough Town. Batting first, the home side struggled to pass the three figure mark as only the four batsmen reached double figures. Three run outs and Three quick wickets from Sam Owen tells the woeful tail of Isham's batting. In reply, Jack Chopping took two wickets, but Sam Owen again proved a nuisence, powering to 51 not out to take Wellingborough to 2nd in the league.

The 2nd XI managed a losing draw away to Badby after some heroic batting from the 9th wicket partnership of Peter Wills and Sunil Sukhdeo. Sunil earlier had took 3 wickets and gave Isham some hope of bowling the home side out cheaply. But 63 from Mike Scott and other contributions lower down the order helped the home side to 220 for 7 off their 45. In reply, Isham found themselves at 54 for 6 with 24 overs remaining before the epic "bat-out" between Peter and Sunil.

Kit Update - 22nd May 2007

It's coming! After a muck up with the shirt supplier, and the embroiders requiring pantone colours for logos, I can now confirm that the kit will be here VERY shortly. I made a stab in the dark guess that it would be here for Thursday the 24th but that's now going back a week because the jumpers have been delayed in India. I ask for your patients on this matter and I promise that second I have recieved them, there will be a message on the website.

Final prices are also being confirmed. More to follow...

Saturday Teams Disappoint,
Sunday XI Sparkle!
- 22nd May 2007

Two defeats, a tied game and a comfortable victory was served up by Isham's teams this weekend which sees the 1st XI 2nd from bottom, the 2nd XI slip from top spot, whilst the Sunday XI are now just one point from the top of the Rutland League.

Saturday 1st XI - Lost by 67 away to ON's 2nd XI. After bowling the home side out for a meagre 191, Isham couldn't even gain one batting point, collapsing to 124 all out.

Saturday 2nd XI - Lost by 4 wickets to Weekley and Warkton 2nd XI. Despite a 63 from Andy Reynoldson and two wickets a piece for Pete Wills, Jim Lyon and Sunil Sukdheo, the 2nds slipped to 2nd in the table.

Zingari XI - Drupad Parmer took two wickets right at the death to end the game in a tie against Southwick CC

Sunday XI - A comfortable victory against 8 men meant the Sunday side are in a superb position in Division 4 of the Rutland league. Bowling the home side out for just 114, Isham chased the target down for the loss of just 3 men.

Hobbsy Tops The Fantasy League - 16th May 2007

We have an earlier run away leader in the form of David Hobbs in this year's fantasy league. His tactic of buying in youth seems to be paying off as Albert's Aces are over 50 points behind.

Sunday XI Now Third! - 15th May 2007

Anyone who look outside a window on Sunday would have seen a deluge of rain. No cricket could possibly take place – and that was indeed what happened, with not a single game in the Rutland league being able to get a result – all but one. Isham’s Sunday XI gained 20 points with Higham Ferrers conceding the game, two hours before the rain came down. Isham are now just 6 points from a promotion place in the league, with a game in hand over the top two teams.

This Sunday, Isham travel away to Uffington

2 Out Of 3 For The Saturday Teams - 15th May 2007

The first team's defeat at home on Saturday was the only blot in the copy book this weekend, as both the 2nd XI and Isham Zingari came home with wins under their belts.

The 1st XI couldn't chase down Wollaston's average total of 200 despite another valuable knock from Ben Reid (74). Isham fell well short of the total, losing by 67 runs. Earlier the skipper Shaun Wills collected 4 wickets whilst Will Chudley also chipped in with 3.

The 2nd XI made light work of Ashby Timken, bowling them out for 88, and then losing only 3 wickets chasing down the target. Pete Wills continues to lead from the front, taking 4 wickets whilst Paul Eaton remains as consistent as ever, taking 3 wickets, taking him to 14 wickets (in all comps) for the season.

The Zingari also had to chase down a low total. Pete Wildman took 5 wickets to help dismiss Wandsford in England CC for just 71. Stuart Hardy then made batting look easy, making 44 which included 6 exquisite boundaries!

We're BACK! - 10th May 2007

Oh Dear! It would appear that another bill wasn't paid for and the Isham CC website had to close down. But don't worry, it's all been sorted and your favourite website if back up and running!

Many changes have been made since we had to close on the 1st of May. All the match reports are now updated, there are several more sets of images for you to enjoy, and incase you didn't know, the fantasy league has started!!! CLICK HERE to find out more.

Fantasty League BEGINS - 10th May 2007

Yes folks, the 5th of May 2007 saw the start of points scoring in the 2007 Isham Fantasy Cricket League. There is a certain rumour the P.Short is at the bottom of the players pile with -36 points. May it be pointed out that there is a LONG way to go before the end of the season and all the greats faced sets backs in the early stages!

Poor Weekend For All Teams - 7th May 2007

All three teams didn't have a brilliant weekend. The 1st XI faired the best with a winning draw away to S & L Corby. Ben Reid knocking 134. Both Will Chudley and Shaun Wills picked up 3 wickets each, but S & L held on at the end for the draw.

The 2nd XI lost for the first time under Pete Wills, at home to Gretton. Darren Baines took apart the Isham batting, taking 8 wickets! All out for 139, Isham faced a tough task to gain a result. And despite 5 wickets from Pete Wills, Gretton crossed the finish line to win by 2 wickets

Finally the Sunday team lost their first Rutland League fixture in 8 games, losing away at Long Sutton. Kalvin Lodder took charge of a weakend side. He top scored with 51 whilst the rest of the batting fell around him. Isham were all out for 132. In reply, Long Sutton made short work of the chase, reaching their target with the loss of just two wickets.

1st XI Woe, Sunday XI Joy - 23rd Apr 2007

It was mixed results for our boys this weekend, with the Saturday 1st XI falling at home to Wellingborough Indians. George Chudley top scored with 25, but it was nowhere near enough as the 1st XI fell well short of the Indian's total of 239. Earlier on Andy Law had taken two early wickets to leave Wellingborough Indians 0-2! But a century from Anand Panchal gave the visitors control of the game.

The Sunday XI faired much better, but it was a struggle against their West Midlands visitors Old Westheathians. Paul Eaton, Alex Brown and Peter Short both took two wickets a piece to keep the visitors down to a modest total of 146.
But Alex continued to be in the action as he and Sunil Sukhdeo (both under 17 players), put on a partnership of 57 to see the team home. Earlier in the innings Isham had been reduced to 75-5 after some tight bowling from R. Kranko (2-22) and M. Bales (2-18).

COME ON. WHERE ARE YA? - 26th Feb 2007

Nets have been going on for the last 6 weeks, and the Isham hierarchy are a little disappointed in the turn out. "Practice makes perfect" and there are some who could do with all the practice they can get (webmaster included!)

Nets take place at the Christopher Hatton School, Wellingborough, 7pm in the evening, and finish at 9pm.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Isham Annual Awards Dinner - 26th Feb 2007

Isham's legendary awards dinner has been organised for Friday the 13th of April 2007. They'll take place in the newly refurbished surrounds of the pavilion.

Speaking is none other than Andrew Radd - host of BBC Northampton's Drive Time show, and the holder of many cricketing secrets, which we hope he'll reveal on the night.

We will also be celebrating the star performers of the 2006 season. Not only that, but it will be the first chance for you all to see the coveted "Isham Fantasy League" trophy which will be presented to the winner Peter Wills.

Although the price of tickets has yet to be decided, they will move fast so get hold of yours ASAP.

Winter Update- 8th Feb 2007

As England continue their fiery comeback in Australia, things are a little cooler back here in blighty. But that hasn't stopped the building work inside the pavilion continuing at a rapid pace. Check out the Ground Development Page for more info.

For those of your who didn't realise, nets took place last Sunday at Christopher Hatton School. Give yourself the best possible chance of hitting form at the start of the season and get down there. If not for that then to at least see our 1st team skipper's new leg spin technique!
